How would you write Curse of the Bloody Fangs to make sense?

This would be the way to interpret this... Basically: As a minor action, do more damage (and the power doesn't end). The target has the option/opportunity on each of its turns to "get you out of its head" and thus end the effect.

    Spears not having a range?

I would actually treat it, as The Little Raven recommends, as an improvised weapon, but I would still have it do Spear damage... End result: You can throw it... you can even hit them with the damaging end... but you ain't never gonna be that good at it since it ain't designed that way, so no...

    Standing doesn't provoke an OA?

Page 283: You can't end your movement in an ally's square unless that ally is prone. You can't end your movement in an opponent's square unless that opponent is helpless. Though I wonder what that means in terms of cover from range attacks?

    Standing doesn't provoke an OA?

The rules seem pretty cut & dry to me... Pg 292, "Stand Up"... (a) It's a move action (b) It's doesn't say that it provokes an OA, so it doesn't provoke an OA. House ruling that it does probably wouldn't change *much*, but keep in mind that there are a lot more things in 4e than there were in...

    Ranger w/2 bastard swords

There's no, on paper, reason why this better than two Battleaxes... Or two Warhammers... Or even two Flails... Add to that, one less feat for any of those... Actually, I really like the mental image of the Dual Wielding Ranger with Flails...

Belt of Ironskin vs. Cloak of resistance

Actually, my last response was still more in response to "Holy Avengers should be cheaper because they're of limited interested." and I felt my point was more clearly illustrated with a Pact Blade, which is a simpler, more direct, version of the Holy Avenger. An item which does multiple things...

Belt of Ironskin vs. Cloak of resistance

Actually... Pact blades are probably a perfect example. +5 Dagger: Level 21 (225,000gp) +5 Wand (or Rod, they're all the same): Level 21 (225,000gp) +5 Pact Blade Dagger: Level 23 (425,000) A +5 dagger *and* a +5 wand *should* be 450,000gp. Add in the fact that the pact blade automatically...

Belt of Ironskin vs. Cloak of resistance

Both factors have to be taken into consideration. "How useful is this item in general?" and "How useful is this to the intended recipient?" Paladins aren't the only ones who can use the Avenger (and it *is* offered at a discount...). First, it can also be used, fully effectively, by Clerics...

    Opportunity Attacks??

99% of the time, Reach doesn't apply to OAs. Reach only applies on your turn, unless you (or, much more commonly, the monster) have "Threatening Reach". Because of this fact, only adjacent squares count. If you have Threatening Reach, you get your OA against anyone who leaves a square you...

Belt of Ironskin vs. Cloak of resistance

Now you're getting into an iffy territory. The Ironskin Cloak, in this case, would likely be *significantly* worse. What level would I place the items at? Hard to say. As I said earlier, the advantage of the Ironskin belt is the fact that it *is* a belt. The Belt of Resistance is not a...

Belt of Ironskin vs. Cloak of resistance

Of course it's an economy. The levels exist as guidelines, and as a pricing scheme. A player can have item of any level. Heck, they could trade in all their items and get one 15th level item. The levels are a framework, not a straight-jacket. Of course all +1 weapons are the same level...

Belt of Ironskin vs. Cloak of resistance

Well, of course there's going to be differences in levels of items that *seem* to do the same thing. Bracers of the Perfect Shot are perfect for Wizards who have Magic Missile, and Warlocks. They both have a *power* that counts as a basic ranged attack. Bracers of Mighty Striking are really...

Belt of Ironskin vs. Cloak of resistance

You're still neglecting the "slot" effect. All neck items grant bonuses to the non-AC defenses. The base item which gives a +1 to the non-AC items is the level one "Amulet of Protection". For a level 2 item, you get to have Resist: All for less than a round once per day in addition to the...

    Cloud of Knives kills minions?

SadisticFishing: One other thing of note. Mouseferatu specifically said "Hi, I helped with the making of this game. Oh, yeah, and I'm on good terms with the people who did all the big work on it. Let me tell you how it works." and then told you "The damage from the zone will kill minions...

    Cloud of Knives kills minions?

Re: Cloud of Sharp Objects: It's true that Cloud of Daggers is an attack. Both in "Hi, I'm an attack power" and in the "You have to roll to hit stuff" senses. However, as soon it's your turn is over, it stops being a "missed attack". When a creature begins its turn in within the cloud, the...

If 2handed weapon is wielded 1 handed, does it still count as 2 handed?

Small creatures can use any one-handed medium weapon. However, if it's Versatile, they *must* use it two handed, and don't gain the usual benefit for using a versatile weapon two-handedly. They can't use medium two-handers. (Of course, using damage dice steps, a small greatsword is...

If 2handed weapon is wielded 1 handed, does it still count as 2 handed?

Do you have a link to that response? I'd like to see it in its original form. I looked through the current PHB FAQ (http://wizards.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wizards.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=1396) and looked at the current errata (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/files/UpdatePH20080610.pdf) and...

If 2handed weapon is wielded 1 handed, does it still count as 2 handed?

Which I said, but because they become so mechanically close, with the only difference between that a large creature wielding a medium greatsword and that same large creature wielding a large longsword is the loss of "Versatile", I'd probably keep them the same in this *one* instance (and make...

If 2handed weapon is wielded 1 handed, does it still count as 2 handed?

Clarification: They *could* use a *medium* greatsword in one hand, there's just no benefit to doing so. They'd be better off going with a *large* longsword. Of course, you could argue that a medium greatsword *is* a large longsword (they do the same damage, have the same proficiency bonus...

    Rate 4e!

This is interesting to me because when some of the powers (and flavor texts) were revealed, people were worried that there was going *too much* pre-existing flavor and that they wouldn't be able to have their imaginations insert as much as they wanted it to. Now, people seem to be saying (I'm...
