D&D 5E Sorcerer spell list - why so short?

At and after level 12, I'm pretty sure an Evoker is a better blaster than a Sorcerer. The Sorcerer basically gets the advantage of 4 extra levels of stat to damage and 9 extra levels of damage boosters (Empowered/Twinned Spell vs Overchannel). The Evoker has much better spell selection and...

    D&D 5E Ranger

I get that, that's why I gave you a solution. Restrict the beast companion to a 1/8 CR companion at level 3 without proficiency to attack and damage and a 1/4 CR companion at level 11 with proficiency to attack and damage. Let the Ranger control the beast companion for free. If I were DMing...

    D&D 5E Ranger

This is equivalent to an extra attack. Would a feat that allows you to take an extra attack be balanced?

    D&D 5E Ranger

If you want the Ranger's pet to act independently, a simple fix would be to restrict Rangers to a CR 1/8 pet at level 3 and not add the Ranger's proficiency bonus to attacks or damage. Let the Ranger have a CR 1/4 pet at level 7. Add the Ranger's proficiency bonus to attacks and damage at...

D&D 5E The Worst Capstone Abilities

Anyone else notice how not all level 20 abilities are created equal? The worst has to be the Ranger's. It's a 1/round +1 to +3 (unless you maxed out on Wis) bonus on either an attack roll or a damage roll if you're facing a Favored Enemy. Compare to the Barbarian, who gets +4 Str and +4 Con...

D&D 5E Beast Master Ranger Revamp

I think the Ranger is the clunkiest class in the PHB, and the Beast Master is no exception. It strains credulity that the animal companion can't act unless directed with an action, while a simple pet or summoned creature would. However, if the animal companion could act, it would be a huge...

D&D 5E 5th Edition -- Help Me Break the Game!

You're right about the level 20 ability -- I thought it gave infinite casts like the level 18 ability. Two extra level 3 spells 1/day is pretty meh. Still, a 1-level delay on your abilities is pretty important while actually playing the game. See the 3.5 Sorcerer's delayed spell progression...

    D&D 5E Ranger

One is a 3rd level spell and is compared against Fireball, the other is a 3rd level class feature and is compared with critting on 19. Fireball deals 8d6 damage in a big radius. Critting on 19 adds less than 5% to your DPR.

D&D 5E Martial Characters vs Real World Athletes

:D I have this image of a Half-Orc pleading his case as he's being ejected for violating the Performance-Enhancing Magic policy.

D&D 5E 5th Edition -- Help Me Break the Game!

A normal Wizard with Mage Armor would probably start with 15 AC (Mage Armor + Dex). A Wizard x/Cleric 1 starts with 18 AC (Chain mail + Shield) and quickly improves to 20 AC. The higher AC costs 10 speed (heavy armor) and getting everything a level later (except the spell slots). At level 4...

D&D 5E 5th Edition -- Help Me Break the Game!

The Fighter gets a big damage boost at level 11. Assuming +5 Strength, he gets 3*(2d6 Greatsword +5 Strength +1.33 Great Weapon Fighting) = 40 damage, *2 for 80 damage with Action Surge. This doesn't consider the +2 to hit and +1 crit range the Fighter has. The multiclass combo gets there one...

    D&D 5E Ranger

The 3rd level class ability shouldn't increase damage by too much. Going by a Fighter, it should only increase your damage by a bit less than 5%. Can anyone think of a way to have the pet acting independently but not increasing the Ranger's damage by more than ~5% at level 3?

Sorcerous Origin: Arcane Origin (more Sorcererer)

The 5E Sorcerer looks really cool: extra spell slots and metamagic! But they don't get very much. Not a lot of spells known (only 2/spell level up to 5th and 1/spell level afterwards), only three metamagic options, and only enough Sorcery points for a couple of extra spells and a small handful...

I don't think there's anything that lets you attack with the shield (only shove).

    D&D 5E Which class(es) won the PHB?

I voted for Bards, Druids, and Warlock. After the 3.5 and Pathfinder Bards, the 5th edition Bard is amazing! I'd be excited to play a Bard, and an inexperienced Bard player won't drag the group down. Warlocks have a lot of flavor and interesting mechanics. I love how they have few spell...

    D&D 5E Crossbow Expert

I think it's to prevent you from using your bonus action to smack someone in the face with the unloaded hand crossbow (you can still smack them in the face with the loaded hand crossbow). :p *thinks about building a character to hand crossbow-whip people in the face twice a round*

    Revised Melee Weapons

I tried to make sure Versatile weapons are a bit worse than using a "real" two-handed weapon. 2d6 averages 0.5 damage more than 1d12 and is more consistent. It also synergizes much better with Great Weapon Fighting. People seem to prefer 2d6 weapons to 1d12.

    Revised Melee Weapons

The "Bastard Sword" in 5E is using the Longsword in 2 hands (Versatile 1d10 damage). I removed that option :). Someone who wants it can just as easily switch the War Pick stats with the Longsword.

    D&D 5E Weapon oddities

For those of you interested in a revised weapons table, I made one here. I addressed some but not all issues in this thread. I was primarily concerned with making Strength-based weapons a bit better and removing strictly-inferior weapons.
