    D&D 5E What is +1 Strength worth?

Combine a +1Str bonus to attack & damage with the feat Polearm Master, then you have another attack gaining that bonus too. It starts to stack up. 5e doesn't have the same massive bonuses you got in 3e/PF thus any bonus is powerful

D&D 5E Rime of the Frostmaiden Post-Mortem (Spoilers)

Thanks Blue, Swedish chef, Ancalagon & Greg. Glad the cavalry arrived!🥳 I have been enjoying Rime. But, I am glad I did not run it out of the tin. Being one of the undead (I am a teacher of 16-18s) + not as young as I used to be + am a parent means I am time poor, and thus would really like a...

D&D 5E Which Official D&D Books Are Your Favourite?

Yes... this is it! Anything by the Kobolds..... & MCG's Ptolus setting & all its support.... Ruins of Symbaroum 5e (Free League), Cubicle 7's Adventures in Middle Earth.....& Beowulf 5e & Scarred Lands by Onyx Path!

D&D 5E Which Official D&D Books Are Your Favourite?

Am with you on those choices. Eberron is one of my favourite 'official' settings (can't include Ptolus, Golarion or Midgard!) & am looking forward to Keith's sandbox setting when it finally is printed! Curse of Strahd has been the best overall campaign I have both read & run. Oozes with...

    D&D 5E Beowulf 5e KS

Yes. Jon Hodgson creates wonderful material which immerses you in the setting through attention to detail. In regards to Beowulf, his scholarship / deep reading of the subject matter shines through in the prose & art, as well as the artefacts such as the tokens & compass, and dice tray. Backed...

    D&D 5E Dark Souls 5e Copy in Hand… Q&A

AiME is excellent & very dangerous if you run it like standard D&D as I did in a mini dungeon bash in it. Nearly a TPK - players had the sense to retreat to a defendable doorway/ room. Ruins of Symbaroum 5e may offer a similar hard-core experience, with beautiful books & far fewer typos than DS! 🤣

D&D 5E Rime of the Frostmaiden Post-Mortem (Spoilers)

No one, no one has said anything about removing player agency or treating people like idiots. These are your words, which is why I despair at your ridiculous comments! All folks were doing - me & others here on this thread & elsewhere- were commenting on the problems with RotFM- and it spilled...

D&D 5E Rime of the Frostmaiden Post-Mortem (Spoilers)

You sadly are an incredibly rude man! OK- I am working from memory but so what? You know who I mean. And you think GMs want the campaigns they buy from WotC to be shite? 🤣 And no one ever said they aren't good other 5e companies! For the love of God! What is the point?! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Has anyone run any Beowulf & if so could they share their experiences?

D&D 5E Rime of the Frostmaiden Post-Mortem (Spoilers)

Sigh. You don't get what constructive criticism means it seems! 1. Folks who play D&D want WotC campaigns to be exemplary examples of the game. 2. And there are lots of great things about their campaigns. Great stories, art, lots of fantastic material. High production values. Lots of high...

D&D 5E Rime of the Frostmaiden Post-Mortem (Spoilers)

Listen Paul you clearly are happy with how WotC write their material. Many of us though are not. We are giving a shared narrative/ point of view about these issues. IF WotC were to 1) give guidance in their campaigns as to how to run their adventure sandbox style 2) to get rid of internal/...

D&D 5E Rime of the Frostmaiden Post-Mortem (Spoilers)

Thanks Ancalagon Exactly what I was saying. Have read Balders Gate: Descent into Avernus; Waterdeep: Dragon Heist & Read & run Curse of Strahd & Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden. And have always waited for Justin Alexander to fix all the problems/ point out things needing fixing. Some I...

D&D 5E Rime of the Frostmaiden Post-Mortem (Spoilers)

This maybe a factor. However, 1. the failures in the internal logic of their campaigns (which Justin Alexander ruthlessly points out) plus 2. the lack of guidance on how to approach the sandbox / styles of approach for it & 3. Assumption in Rime that pcs will want to team up with the Arcane...

D&D 5E Rime of the Frostmaiden Post-Mortem (Spoilers)

Loads of great comments. To echo these, and others, RotFM has tons of great material, which, with effort, can be weaved into a great campaign. I don't understand why WotC don't employ Justin Alexander (of The Alexandrian) to help edit/ oversee their campaigns to make sure 1. They make sense...

    D&D 5E Beowulf 5e KS

D&D 5E Revisiting future product predictions (2021 and beyond)

Seems we will be getting a Spelljammer book - setting I assume. Will they try and tie Planescape into that? Seems with the discussion on alignment and shift from races to ancestries, that this makes Planescape even harder to redo. But Spelljammer straight forward. I hope you are right...

How are teaching and running a game similar?

Agree with these posts. Been teaching 16-19s for nearly 30 years. Lots of cross over skills. Problem with teaching, esp in the UK atm, with the 4 years of continual curriculum change followed by the pandemic, on top of cuts, is that we're all at breaking point. Thus, even before the pandemic, I...
