D&D General Has the meaning of Roleplaying changed? my own thought.

I don't think roleplaying has so much changed as I've changed. I'm an adult now and play a much better game then I did at 11 years old. When DnD came about, or say Traveller, the roleplaying, the quality of a game being played was pretty sophisticated right out of the gate when being played by...

Systems Where You Dread Running Combat

Thank you. I would apply heavy and cumbersome to Champions. I can't think of any other game I've played where the rules got in the way of me managing a superhero pace for a superhero game. I passed on Savage Worlds when I read it. That system fits the first descriptor.

Systems Where You Dread Running Combat

I do not agree. Fighting a hated enemy is surely more interesting than fighting the town guard? On either side of the table.

I'm not understanding what you mean here. Care to clarify?

Systems Where You Dread Running Combat

Add the ingredients together; environment, adversary, the collection and health of the PCs, the stakes, and then environment again. Widen the lens. There is enough variables there is always something interesting to do. And this is not exclusive to the PCs. NPCs can do interesting things as well...

Systems Where You Dread Running Combat

I guess. Since 2012 when I got back into gaming I've run USR Sword & Sorcery campaign 3 years, BRP Clockwork & Cthulhu 3 years, B/X fantasy campaign 2-1/2, Champions 6 months, and now DC Heroes 10 months. All different people in each of these groups. All recruited online, complete strangers, and...

Systems Where You Dread Running Combat

I dread (and so don't play it anymore) combat in Champions. I like Supers for the personal drama which develops. Champions combat would eat all the game time up so I never felt a living world had room to grow. These days I have been real lucky with my Basic DnD games. The players I had would use...

Which non-D&D fantasy RPG do you currently play?

The Blood of Heroes (DC Heroes) superhero roleplaying. Forgot to add Gamma World 1e/2e (1.5?), going hot in 5. Got my rad pills though, so should be good (looks at third nipple).

Indie Games Are Not More Focused. They Are Differently Focused.

The "broad" skill list is intended to be used in part to support the genre being played. Character creation is a point buy system for skills and abilities so there is no reason for a character not to be extremely proficient in the areas they would want or need to be. It is a mistake to consider...

"And even if you have ideal-based clerics, they still use the very divine-flavored cleric spell list. You have spell like Spirit Guardians, Conjure Celestial, Divination, and Guardian of Faith. You have class abilities like Channel Divinity and Divine Intervention. De-goding the cleric would be...

What's your favorite superhero TTRPG and why?

The Maxx was my favorite in my first year of college back in 92-93. Smoke a bunch of weed, listen to Bowie, read the latest Maxx, and tried to stay awake long enough for some of the cute girls to come crawling through my window. It paid to have your own pad as a freshman. Just bought the first...

What's your favorite superhero TTRPG and why?

Way dig DC Heroes system, I use the retro clone The Blood of Heroes 2nd Edition. Spent years banging my head against the wall with Champions. You spend more time discussing the rules then actually playing a roleplaying game. Actually I should say if you want to play a tactical game of...
