    I'm just getting started with a very gritty, "you're mercenaries" E6 game, but if that didn't fly for some reason, I think I'd slide over genres a bit and run something using Monte's World of Darkness book - it looks like a lot of fun.

    If you can, you may find the Sha'ir class in the Dragon Compendium to do much of what you're looking for - it models a trained, intelligent caster who calls spirits and has them retrieve the magic for him.

    Gotcha. I'm starting up a slightly modified E6 campaign now, and since feats are so integral to that, I've spent a lot of time looking their direction lately. Similar reason, apparently, if a different end goal. :)

    I actually don't think BoVD is - I know Exalted straddles the line pretty closely, but does fall into 3.5. But BoVD came quite a while first - I think it was written just before the switch. That said, I think it's probably a type worth mentioning, yes.
