Dear WotC - You suck at names.

Oh I can totally come up with cool names. I have this great method. I take two fantasy sounding words and stick them together! It works every time. Also, I'm kidding.

NC Game Day XIV (September 22): Cuz' GenCon Just Wasn't Enough!

I've not looked at these boards in way too long. Almost missed the Gameday thread entirely. Anyway, I'm planning on running Ninja Turtles using the Feng Shui system, provided there is sufficient interest. So on that note, who's in?

    NC Starcraft: Battle for Tarsonis

Here's a sample character from the Gameday scenario. Jacob "BLACKJACK" Philips is a Terran Firebat whose personality runs in the vein of Jayne from Firefly. If you have any questions about the stats or anything, feel free to post them. Name: Lance Corporal Jacob Philips Call Sign: BLACKJACK...

    NC Starcraft: Battle for Tarsonis

It was actually a very easy conversion. I'm still tweaking the vehicles, but they should be ready by the 12th, in time for the game. You asked for examples, so here's the first. True20 uses a relatively small number of "roles," or classes, which gain four feats at first level and one every...

7th Layer of Hell is called...

Dante doesn't name it, but divides it in three parts: the burning river Phlegethon, the Wood of Suicides, and the Burning Sands. Of course, you could just go with Maladomini too.

    NC Starcraft: Battle for Tarsonis

As well you should, amazing system and incredibly adaptable, hence the Starcraft rules i came up with (which are still a work in progress but i'm happy to send you the latest edition if you want to give them a shot). Examples will be forthcoming soon.

    NC Starcraft: Battle for Tarsonis

Since Kerrigan's stunning victory high above Tarsonis, it has remained an uninhabited wasteland, but now, five years after the end of the Brood War, the Terran Dominion has set its sights upon reclaiming the former Confederate capital world. Since its defeat by Kerrigan's Zerg broods, the...

    Your Setting Evolved

My last major campaign was set in the apocalyptic end of the game world, and the PCs were sort of "chosen ones." They discovered over the course of the game that their task was not to prevent the coming end but rather to create the next world to follow that one. So, advancing that world 10...

    Lame Names

A friend of mine uses the name "Zephrum" as his screenname in a lot of things. Thus, in a long-running game under a homebrew system, his character was a mage named "Zeph Rum." I named an NPC wizard "Fob" once. Not sure why, but it's a lame name.

NC Game Day XIII (April 21-22): aka "Mini-GenCon"

There is one and only one that sticks out in my mind (from Sky Galleons): "We are very pleased to meet you!" Also, thanks to everyone for making the Starcraft game and my first Gameday in general unbelievable fun. Can't wait for next time; maybe I'll actually play in something.

    No AoO?

Thing is, it's very rare that anyone does something that would provoke an AoO in fencing. It's a bunch of 5-foot steps, armed disarm attempts, and regular attacks.

    No AoO?

I think AoOs are integral to D&D 3.5. There is simply too much built into the system around them. If you remove them, you cause serious game balance issues (i.e. crippling tumble, combat reflexes, reach, making casters even stronger). That said, I've come to love True20, which has no AoOs...

NC Game Day XIII (April 21-22): aka "Mini-GenCon"

Characters for Starcraft are up. There's still one more seat remaining so hurry if you want to get in on it. Check the Gameday website for short descriptions of the characters.

NC Game Day XIII (April 21-22): aka "Mini-GenCon"

Starcraft still has at least two seats remaining. The general feel will be sort of Aliens-meets-Full Metal Jacket/Apocalypse Now. Characters will be a recon team under the Terran Dominion scouting out a planet on which the they have just landed in an effort to locate resources, hostiles, or...

NC Game Day XIII (April 21-22): aka "Mini-GenCon"

Cary's a nice town. Very close to Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, all chock-full of gamers. I have some friends that live there, and they all seem to enjoy it. Sci-fi Genre is a great gamestore in Durham, and you can meet a lot of potential players there. If you can make friends with some...

NC Game Day XIII (April 21-22): aka "Mini-GenCon"

True20 Starcraft: Reclamation Five years after the conclusion of Brood War, the Terran Dominion is in dire straits. Emperor Arcturus Mengsk has directed a valiant effort to liberate former Terran planets overrun by the insectoid Zerg. However, this "Reclamation," as he has deemed it, begins to...

Felon v. ForceUser: The Warlock, more boring than the Fighter?

From the player's end there, I agree. That angelic warlock was a blast to play. And I tend to agree. If the warlock gets as much supplemental material as the fighter then it should be just as interesting.

Non-Core Class Survivor: The Warlock is the Sole Survivor!

I played a warlock-scout, so HA. Fun character, terrible campaign. But warlock all the way. If you don't like the flavor, I played one as a gestalt class with cleric that was redone to mimic a celestial (long backstory, but great character, trust me). Warlock forever! P.S. Spellthief is...

What's your favorite "basic" race to play (and why)?

I mean the next generic elf. The arrogant, aloof, superiority complex laden elf wizard or archer or ranger with no character besides the stereotypical elven traits.

    Exchanging feats and skills

This isn't Magic: the Gathering. I've had a player who started off with one character concept and, while keeping the same personality for his character, restyled the mechanics of him several times until he found something he was happy with. I could've said "too bad buddy" and made him play a...
