    Heroic/Paragon/Epic - How Famous?

How I see things going in a PoL setting... Early heroic tier will have small towns and villages that need help. Midheroic, remnants of the fallen empire (lesser lords/ladies) begin to contact the heroes for jobs. High heroic, the heroes are known in a small region or area. Their success...

    Origin of D&D words/names?

I've always heard it explained this way. So, the explanation of genasi was seriously awesome.

    PHBII has Half-Orcs and Goliaths

Someone needs to stat up spam necromancers. Seriously, tell me what they're vulnerable to.

Does anyone actually like Dragonborn and Tieflings?

C'mon, everyone knows that D&D players LOVE Factory farming dairy cows. Especially if they play dragonborn or tieflings.

    OotS 600 is up....

I thought it was pretty much the perfect OOTS strip. Humour, breaking the 4th wall, and breaking the tension of the past few strips. It's a good sort of, "Yeah, things are awful right now, but they're gonna' get better!"-strip. And that whole anti-mage swing thing is pretty cool.

D&D 4E Forked Thread: Some Thoughts on 4e

It's something like high-rollin'. ;) I have yet to play a 4e wizard. For 3.x, I only played a sorc at lower levels. My impression is that a wizard's awesomeness factor comes from creative use of cantrips and rituals. I scan over them and see possibility... akin to how LostSoul's player acted in...

What's the most significant difference you've found with 4e from 3e?

Biggest difference is how eager I am to play or run it. In example, every class seems interesting and exciting to me (although I think fighters and rogues may have become my faves...). Ruleswise? The game being focused around the power mechanic. I don't think it's a perfect design, but I like...

Are you buying a DDI subscription?

2 coppers... Until the table and character creation are running smoothly, I'll probably stick with my no vote. That'll only change if my old group(s) want to go online.

    Martial Power Preview

I'm really not sure how I feel about it. The Level 11's are OK. They're not great, but they really do not impress me. Longarm Grasp is really nice. I can see it as appealing for polearm MC classes, but I really think those classes would do better going into their own paragons. Leveraging...

    Best Weapon for a Swordmage?

..soo... the ultimate cheese hand-jiving would be quickdrawing a Full blade off of the ground, moving, attacking, dropping it, and then repeating. Possibly trying to quickdraw a parrying dagger or spiked shield at the end would be cumbersome, but more effective for the cheese. (Granted...

Could All Weapons Just Do The Same Damage?

I kind of like that. I wonder how it'd work in game. To the OP, Just let everything that is improvised be +2 Prof and 1D6 damage - in other words just give them Club stats like wearing a Belt of the Brawler. Similarly, if you really want players to wield whatever, let them just pick up prof...

    Eight New Multiclass Feats

What level are the players? If they're 8, I have a solution for you. If they're 6, it might need some fudge. If they're under 6... try to make sure the party cleric dies by then. At 6 let the fighter MC cleric pick up the utility swap (early) and grab Bastion of Health. Also, Power Swap for L.1...

    Getting back on the horse

Similarly, make sure that you have an idea of what kinds of characters the players want to play. Also, make sure they know the tone of the game. How good, grey, or bad they're going to be. Where does unaligned end and the other alignments come into play?

Feeling creative? Help me with some plot ideas...

Nosferatu, anyone? Seriously, the ambusher and disease made me think of that readily. Also, I ran a 3.5(ish) game that featured a pirate ship for about a year and a half... O Merchant ships. Merchant ships are always good. They can be simple trade vessels going in one direction, or hiding some...

How to balance a fight with a monster who switches sides?

Also, you might want to consider the moment of betrayal significant enough to be considered a milestone. This can help with allowing another action point and possibly access to another magic item use.

Epic Podcast - good, bad or indifferent?

Oh man, that is really zombie-tastic. I like it a lot. I'm now trying to think of alternate minion rules for all levels... Oh yeah, I forgot the most important part of this whole podcast. Genasi's pronunciation.

    Getting back on the horse

Mr. Marmell, I imagine most of the problems of play at various tiers have come up, and I also am guessing you've read or skimmed a lot to know... -Minions can be too easy sometimes. Have them come in waves, or be intentionally weak. Similarly, if the party has no controller, minions can be...

What Cool Improvised Stuff Has Your Character Done?

In that room, my Tempest Fighter/Rogue jumped down from that ledge onto one of the scared kobolds inside. I impaled it with my swords, dealing falling damage to it and myself. This caused it to die. I felt pretty BA. Not quite improvised... but my rogue/cleric jumped out of a second story...

Dragon 368 - Death Matters (But Never Happens)

My coppers... Played in a 4e demo game - TPK. DM didn't know the recharge rules, so we got rocked. Ran a 4e homebrew game w/ the pre-4e stuff. They feared death. And hobgoblins. No one ever died, but a lot got close. Played a 4e game up to almost level 7. Feared death constantly. Then the DM...
