D&D 5E The Multiverse is back....

Well I was disagreeing with pemerton primarily, not you. I will say, however, that it's workable as metaphysics too, particularly if you have a non-dualistic outlook in things. Good, evil, law, and chaos all represent fairly different things in D&D's cosmology, which means there's no real...

D&D 5E The Multiverse is back....

I don't agree. I think it's entirely possible to see someone as mostly good but not necessarily wholly good. But then again, I don't believe in moral absolutism (to a certain extent; I do think certain things are clearly good and evil) and perceive law and chaos as alignments to be as much about...

D&D 5E The Multiverse is back....

That's sort of a historical accident though rather than a deliberate choice. Both sports originated out of medieval ball games that were played throughout England, with loads of variations (since there was no such thing as national leagues at the time). It's largely by accident that 19th century...

    D&D 5E Forgotton Realms Canon?

It does leave a fair bit of things unclear though. Like what happened to some of the 4e gods like Asmodeus or whether the Mulhorandi pantheon is back. It's also somewhat unclear how Myrkul and Kelemvor are sharing their governance over death, seeing as both once claimed complete control of it...

D&D 5E Which campaign setting material (AP or Sourcebook) would you like to see first/next in 5E?

I wonder if perhaps WotC's strategy will be to concentrate on setting books next year in the same way they focused on releasing the three core rulebooks and starter set this year. Perhaps instead of releasing them on an annual basis (as they did for 4e and which eventually dropped off after...

D&D 5E The Multiverse is back....

Actually I think Hussar has said they didn't care much for 4e's lore either. It was mostly pemerton who said they preferred and that was because it was more "dynamic" and "dramatic" (two labels I disagree with here but that's neither here nor there). Mostly Hussar's comparisons to 4e have been...

D&D 5E Which campaign setting material (AP or Sourcebook) would you like to see first/next in 5E?

Well, Greyhawk was the flagship setting for three editions of D&D. I don't have any particular like/dislike for it but I can see why there'd be a lot of passion for it, especially after it got kicked out during 4e (which was one of WotC's odder decisions).

    D&D 5E Forgotton Realms Canon?

This matches what I've kind of surmised... that WotC hasn't actually decided what the changes to the Realms are yet (aside from a couple important details like Mystra's resurrection and the "unreturning" of Returned Abeir). Which to a certain degree makes sense... I think they're watching to see...

D&D 5E The Multiverse is back....

While I have been arguing that 5e should try to accommodate different tastes I do think, to a certain degree, Remathilis is correct. WotC only has so many designers and asking them to produce both a series of generic planar sourcebooks and a series of books devoted to the core D&D planes is...

    D&D 2E Looking for a 2e adventure to run for 5e

All the good adventures have been CRPGs :P (which FR certainly has its fair share of). Which actually does beg the question of how well a pen-and-paper conversion of an electronic module might work. Oddly, I don't think I've ever seen anyone try it (possibly because most CRPGs are built around...

D&D 5E Which campaign setting material (AP or Sourcebook) would you like to see first/next in 5E?

A bit surprised Nentir Vale / Points of Light isn't an option. It wasn't my cup of tea but I know a lot of people really liked it and it would probably help to allay a some of the discontent a lot of 4e fans have about 5e (though not everything obviously). I personally voted for FR, because...

D&D 5E So, thoughts on the Paladin now?

The Oath of Vengeance paladin is explicitly non-good (recommended alignment is lawful neutral or neutral) but they still ultimately fight for the "greater good" so I see your point. I expect evil oaths will come later, in supplements. For the most part, the game out of the box is geared toward...

    D&D 5E Forgotton Realms Canon?

Ah, gotcha. I'm still trying to figure out the whole Sundering thing, which is largely still a mystery aside from a few main points.

    D&D 5E Forgotton Realms Canon?

I didn't say they were non-canon and I am aware of the time skip. However, while the Sundering ends during the 1480s, what I've read suggests that A Murder in Baldur's Gate, the first adventure in the storyline, takes place in 1479 DR. What I meant by "in limbo" is not that the books are...

    D&D 5E Forgotton Realms Canon?

The 4th edition timeline for the Realms is a bit of a mess at the moment. As it turns out the Sundering - the RSE which ushers in 5e and undoes a lot of 4e's changes - begins the same year that 4e takes place. This leaves a lot of the events of 4e's adventures and novels (few of which I think...

D&D 5E Give Sorcerers their due!

IIRC, wizards in 3e could cast the same spell more than once too. They just had to use up more of their daily allotment of spells per day (so less variety in spells for that day). I don't recall there ever being a rule that wizards could only cast each spell once. The main difference I recall...

D&D 5E The Multiverse is back....

Actually, it dates back at least to The Sunless Citadel, which was the first D&D adventure I ever played. The kobolds in the adventure (which was released in 2000) venerate a juvenile white dragon. It's not quite worship, as the adventure describes the dragon as the kobolds' "mascot" but they're...

D&D 5E The Multiverse is back....

If they also ate high/gray elves lunch than yes. I honestly think the elf thing is a bigger deal than the cosmological stuff when it comes to eladrin. If they were called gray elves they wouldn't really be a difference race would they? They'd be elves (even if with different mechanics) and so...

D&D 5E The Multiverse is back....

I think those are valid criticisms though. As I said earlier in the thread, I wasn't too thrilled by 4e's experimental (and ultimately abandoned) plan to describe half-orcs as an artificial race either. And again, the issue with eladrin is as much tied up in the idea of who or what is "elven" as...

D&D 5E MM sold out on amazon

I think the article got shared to Kotaku, which is probably where Zulithe saw it. io9 and Kotaku repost one another's articles every so often.
