[Homebrew] In a godless campaign what do you with clerics?

That's what I was thinking. The 5E Paladin is explicitly not a Cleric due to the source power of the oaths and because of that is easier to ignore. Extra-planar entities that grant spells was in 4E if I recall (Bahamut, Orcus... I think those were worshippable options). I was thinking that...

[Homebrew] In a godless campaign what do you with clerics?

This is what I am leaning towards. The game does become unbalanced without access to highlevel healing magic later in the game. I was thinking the Warden and Scholar classes from "Adventures in Middle Earth" 5E source book were a good solution. The healing mechanic is barely magical, almost more...

[Homebrew] In a godless campaign what do you with clerics?

I remember Dark Sun (loved it) but the elemental stuff in a more-typical D&D setting sounds like Sorcerer. Religions without actual gods is interesting, but it seems like the Warlock would be a better chassis for that angle (especially in a Robert Howard way). Clerics/Paladins as characters that...

[Homebrew] In a godless campaign what do you with clerics?

If your campaign world had a different take on the pantheon, how do you handle the cleric class? If there are no gods, then logically there would be no clerics, possibly no paladins. Some players really like these classes but where do you draw a line between a campaign world with a certain story...

D&D 5E I sing the praises of the Champion!

Champion is one of my favourite classes. I like the "baked in" perks. It's the class I recommend for all new players: character won't die immediately, can participate in almost everything, no confusing options. I love it. As someone else mentioned, I would like to see similar options for the...

What's the gender mix at your table?

If my wife joins then the table is 50/50, but if she can't make it then the ratio is slightly more guys. That said, I (a man) once ran a session for 5 women and there was no obvious difference in play style.

What is your reaction to the Ravnica news?

I think the product makes sense. Big IP for both from the same company, lots of cross-over consumers, same basic fantasy genre. Why not make something for which there will probably be a good return? As for recycling old material, leave that to the secondary, add-on market and focus on making...

Lost Tales of Myth Drannor Now On DMs Guild

I've wanted to read through this after first hearing about it. If the review are positive and the sample looks promising then I would prefer to buy paper version.

What do you miss from the D&D Next playtest?

"The Isle of Dread" was a pretty awesome adventure to include with the playtest. That was my most memorable component.

    Just Finished LMoP--What Next?

All the big published adventures seem to require a lot of prep. I DMed Tyranny of Dragons and that was a lot of work (fun though). As another suggestion, consider one of the adventures in TotYP, they are all pretty straight forward.

Favorite Old Supplements you Still Use

Forgotten Realms gray box. 4E references for the feywild and other planar stuff, Nerath articles from Dragon magazine. 2E supplements for FR are great.I like the 4E DMG for the tips on adventure writing (best I have ever seen). What do people use 1E DMG for?

D&D 5E [poll] How much does party class composition impact your choice on class?

I always have a character concept in mind ahead of time, and play that. However, I usually DM games so when I do play it's a bit of a special occasion for me. That said, while DM'ing I try to adjust the game story to cater to the characters at the table.

D&D 5E [Tomb of Annihilation] Less absolute Curse?

Apropos of nothing, your campaign sounds interesting and fun :-) I like the flavour. My campaign also has limited magic (no clerics or major healing). And I am also wondering if this adventure would fit into my campaign or not. I suppose the plot mechanism could simply be a magical plague that...

D&D 5E Do you want psionics in your D&D?

I do not like psionics in the standard D&D game. However, I did like that in 4E certain aberrations, e.g., mind flayers, had them. This was tied to them being from a different plane of existence, in the Lovecraftian "beyond the stars" sort of way. In that sense, psionics is neither physics nor...

D&D 5E Which other 5e sites and blogs do you frequent for support material?

http://elfmaidsandoctopi.blogspot.ca/ has a dirty S&S feel that I love. I like the creative ideas and have used several in my games.

D&D 5E Why is Hoard of the Dragon Queen such a bad adventure?

DMing this adventure took a lot of work but it was worth it. God, I loved this campaign. Sly Flourish has an indispensable guide. Make it your own, put some effort into it, let the players feel like they have choices, and you will remember those sessions for years to come.

D&D 5E Do you use all of the P.C. races and classes from the PHB?

I try to keep things consistent with campaign narratives. Currently, as house ruled, we permit only 1 instance of a "monster" race (drow, d.b., etc) to maintain the vintage/vanilla representation of fantasy races. We are tinkering with how gods are represented and currently there are no clerics...

D&D 5E Balance of Power Problems in 5e: Self created?

I dropped multi-classing and permit limited feat access. Players understand (and cooperate) with my distaste for power-gaming and exploiting rules. Game is pretty balanced.

Which official 5E adventures have you played through?

It took my group over a year-and-a-half to complete Tyranny of Dragons. TBH, we are all glad it was over, epic ending notwithstanding. I did my best to include side-adventures and lore to flesh out the campaign. But after that much time we are all in the mood for one-off adventures. We have...
