Yeah. The crusader orders are not what I would look to for inspiration on a D&D paladin in 2024, but they are definitely esential to the mythology from which the paladin has sprung. I could see a PC like that being a problem with some of my groups, but he would fit right in at others.

Once upon a time, that was how RPGs were commonly played. IMO, it's nice that we have moved away from that type of game, but every now and then I run into someone who enjoys a... well, a more adversarial role for DM/GM. Someone who waxes poetic about the good old days of save-less death traps...
