Narrative/Novel D&D...ND&D. Imagine if the game played just like the D&D novels?

That is impossible IF you want to play a D&D type RPG. That would be like asking a builder to build a large structure as fast as it would take to do a walk though of the completed structure. As I am retiree I'm always looking to increase my treasure horde so I will bet you YOUR life savings...

Narrative/Novel D&D...ND&D. Imagine if the game played just like the D&D novels?

Then it is NO different than how almost every game I've seen has done it since '78. Players say (narrate) what their character is doing and roll the dice. You don't NORMALLY play that way??? :erm:

How Rare should an Endless Quiver be?

Think like a greedy player. ENDLESS arrows. How much does an arrow cost. How much could a PC make equipping the local army with arrows? Now, base it on how much GP he is going to generate from it.

Why are we okay with violence in RPGs?

That's where XP is discussed (or 86) It's been a couple of decades since I cracked that book open. But Gygax talks about it in several places in the beginning. Many players who haven't read what he wrote for DMs assume it isn't there because their DM was stuck on hack and slash.

Why are we okay with violence in RPGs?

No. starting with AD&D DMG pg. 84? it sets it up for XP without killing. And has been part of every edition since. As for modules. No idea. We've played TONS of save this or solve that type of games. 99% of my play time and DMing has been our own creation since '79. BUT, the rules are...

Why are we okay with violence in RPGs?

If one actually reads the earlies of the genre it was clear that XP was to be given for accomplishing the goal. Not necessarily killing anything. If one bested or overcame, by whatever means, the bad guys and saved the Princess XP was awarded. Whether out fought or out thought.

D&D 5E Tremorsense and ranged attacks

What IS Tremorsense? The ability to determine the location of something because it is moving on the ground and is massive enough to create vibrations and you can feel the vibrations and sense direction and distance. A simple question answered by you (the thread starter) will answer your...

Narrative/Novel D&D...ND&D. Imagine if the game played just like the D&D novels?

You could not. A D&D type RPG is the antithesis of a narrated style . The game and its action isn't told to the players. THEY create it moment by moment. AFTER it happens THEN one could describe it in prose or whatever.

Why are we okay with violence in RPGs?

Yes, of course. The genre will greatly influence the amount and frequency of any violence. But, the original question is somewhat odd IMO.

Ridding Elves and Half-Elves of Darkvision

Your thoughts were also the thoughts of the creators of C&C. Here is what they did for elves: "TWILIGHT VISION : Even under starlight, moonlight or torchlight, elves have exceedingly good vision. They can distinguish color and detail under these conditions for up to one mile but only if they...

    D&D 4E In Defense of 4E - a New Campaign Perspective

Exactly. So many players and DMs got "confused" that it crashed the product line and sales. Like how New Coke "confused" its consumers. It takes rolling 1 multiple times in a row in marketing to screw up that badly.

    Who Playtested This Anyway?

I'm not referring to opinion, mine or others as that is subjective and cannot be right nor wrong. But, simply how the market reacted to the product. That is unarguable (sanely) based on sales and it knocking D&D out of first place in RPG history. Remember, the market is ALWAYS right.

The MAYA Design Principle, or Why D&D's Future is Probably Going to Look Mostly Like Its Past

I don't think so. I didn't like 4E and switched to C&C. 5E then copied much of C&C core mechanics. But, I have no interest in 5E.

    PF2 PDFs?

I didn't see PF 2 rule set PDFs listed in product schedule for next Autumn. Are they only going to be released in dead tree format?

Chaotic Good Is The Most Popular Alignment!

So, if a lawful person thought the law said X and so DID X when the law was really Y, you'd call him NOT Lawful because YOU could only observe unlawful actions. Mkay.

    GM DESCRIPTION: NARRATION OR CONVERSATION?

I prefer the way it was when the first RPGs hit the market. The GM was the eyes, ears and senses of the PCs and verbally conveyed just that information so that the players could immerse themselves and experience other world in a somewhat natural sense. Story telling has nothing to do with that...

Obituary - James Mathe of RPG Shop, RPGNow, Minion Games Has Passed

Although I didn't know of him, his work in the channel of RPG games puts him high in my mind in this industry. He died at a young age. My condolences to his family. I hope he has found a good group to game with...

A question on some game systems

I played RuneQuest for about a year in '79 I think. The GM was good and it played well if a bit slower than AD&D. Never heard of the other games you mentioned.
