    Collected Core Handbook Errata

Burst effects don't provoke OAs, ranged ones do.

Warlords that multiclass as Wizards can Raise Dead?

Since there is no skill check, you don't even need the heal skill to cast the raise dead ritual, just healing-type regents. In fact many rituals (those that specify "no check") have no requirements whatsoever to use (beyond the ritual caster feat). This is a design feature and not a bug.

podcast: 4th edition combat too long

In actual play, there are more combat rounds than a 3.5 encounter, but the overall combat plays out in the same amount of real time, as each round plays faster. This isn't really shown off well by a audio clip of a first time game, but combat speeds up fine.

    Making your own power cards

MSE creates pages for A4 paper rather than the U.S. standard of 8.5x11. A4 paper is slightly longer. About the only real solution I've found is to print to PDF and then use my PDF software to print them scaled to fit, which of course makes them smaller than intended.

D&D 4E 4E Rules that are not covered... questions

You grant combat advantage to everyone, but are -2 to hit for ranged attacks from people not next to you. You can use any of your powers, but are at -2 to hit with them. You can stand up with a move action. Standing up doesn't provoke, although some monsters do have abilities that may trigger...

How Do You Create Custom Magic Items?

The Dragon article Ashen Covenant has some more magic items. It offers the Disrupting weapon as being +1 at 8th level, topping out at +5 at 28th level. So really powerful effects can reduce the the overall bonus an item can offer.

    What modifies saving throws?

Elite and Solo monsters get a bonus to all their saves (+2 and +5 respectively).

Spell Compendium - Which spells have been altered?

I don't know what the old version might have done, but the SC version is a swift spell that removes all fear affects in an extremely short distance spread from you.

    Arcane Thesis Abuse (PHB II)

First, Eschew Materials isn't a metamagic feat. Second, even if you did allow it for metamagic feats that don't require a higher level, it's not all that unbalancing. You still can't learn the spell until you've hit the appropriate level. That is assuming that the full text of the feat...

Looking to form a group in Charlotte/Rock Hill

Underground Games in the Pineville area (just east of south Charlotte) has several people running D&D campaigns (and perhaps other games as well) on various evenings. Gamemaster's in Gastonia hosts a fairly active RPGA group playing Living Greyhawk, Living Arcanis, and other campaigns most...

Comments and questions on 3.5 from a Newbie

Agreed, the sample of how an adventure goes (starting on page 8 of the DMG) is a great beginning example. As a bit of an aside, how many people noticed that the adventure is the same one that was used in previous editions of AD&D, just updated to the 3.5 mechanics?

    The "Everything Sorcerer" Thread

At first I thought you were arguing FOR a sorcerer taking toughness, but it appears your arguement (like mine) is against it. In any event, a sorcerer starts out with 4+Con hit points (max hit points for first level, just like every other class), so only the gross sin of using con as a dump...

Ring of Protection vs. Bracers of Armor

It also stacks with your armor, which is why it costs more.

Why doesn't the 5' step provoke AoO?

Just as your spellcaster can 5' step away to cast a spell, or your archer can 5' step away to use his bow, your fighter can 5' step back to pull out a potion and drink it. After this, you can then 5' step back into range and let loose a full attack. The rules are working AS DESIGNED. Attacks...

Ring of Protection vs. Bracers of Armor

To add just a bit more confusion to the subject, which the above posters are correct that you lose the AC bonus that bracers of armor gives to touch attacks, bracers of armor do apply against INCORPOREAL touch attacks, unlike regular armor.

    [Eberron] Revisiting Warforged

Rules for fighting underwater are on page 92 of the DMG, including a chart of the various penalties involved. Normally if you can't make your swim check (assuming of course that you don;t have a swim speed, or FoM) you're "off balance" which causes you to lose your dex bonus to AC (and gives...

Wielding a Spiked Chain - for the first time.

Yes, feel free to call me out for missing out on that thread, although in my defense there I posted on the general implications of bonus/penalty stacking and got tripped up by the special interaction of bless/bane (esp. since I didn't really pay attention to the particular spells mentioned)...

Wielding a Spiked Chain - for the first time.

Yes, and you're post is the first time anyone has mentioned 3.0 in this thread. So I assumed that we were discussing 3.5. I'm sorry if it seems hard to you, but it only takes a few seconds to pick up your PHB or check out one of the several online SRDs to read a feat before posting about...

Wielding a Spiked Chain - for the first time.

Please at least make an attempt to read a feat before complaining that it doesn't work.

    Non-stacking bonuses, and penalties

The correct answer would have been B. Penalties don't cancel any particular bonus, so they can't reduce just one half of an overlapping bonus.
