    Chameleon Help

Hi, I am looking for a way to enter the Chameleon prestige class at 6th level, but without having lost a base attack bonus before entering. However this requires 8 ranks of Bluff and Disguise, which don't normally come on full BAB classes. Is there any way to do this? Preferably one that...

Dark Sun - Player's Guide rendered obsolete

There is a brief review of it on the reviews page. Other than that there is not a thread about it. Heck, I would be glad to provide a few free copies of the (normally pay) Gamemaster's Guide and Big Book of Baddies to the first few people who ask me, provided they want to review or discuss them.

Dark Sun - Player's Guide rendered obsolete

The claims come a combination of my personal experiences as a player of 20 years (specifically about what people were playing back then and still play today) and everything I have read about the subject. Feel free to research it, perhaps I could be wrong. However pricing of 2nd edition Dark Sun...

Dark Sun - Player's Guide rendered obsolete

I am surprised to even see a Dark Sun for 4th edition. The lavish and complex Dark Sun product line throughout the 90s was one of the major reasons TSR ended up in such a bad spot, as they kept pouring more money and development time into Dark Sun products that gamers largely just had no...

Are the Retro Clones doing well?

In Red Box Fantasy I just refer to D&D as "The Game" and usually mention "older versions" and "newer versions". Everyone knows what you are talking about. It isn't like a large amount of people are going to end up playing our retro-games with no knowledge of D&D.

    Differences between 1e and Basic?

The Basic rules are a different game with a much smaller ruleset that still stays largely compatible with 1st edition. Material from one game can be used in the other with no real conversion neccessary. Once you get into the expert, companion, master and immortals sets the rules diverge quite...

    Party just doesn't work

The party really needs to agree on, elect or declare a party leader who can make the big picture decisions after a little discussion with the others. This little step could go a long way towards fixing those issues.

    Touch Tablets

Power need not be a real issue with these things, as they can be made so low power that they can be solar charged. If energy really becomes that big of an issue I think we will all have bigger problems than not being able to power our gaming pads.

3d printer open source kit you can buy

The problem may of course be that the printer may not last long enough or be reliable enough to pay its own way in miniatures or terrain or whatever it is you are making with it. They are selling it as a kit rather than fully assembled and I think that says something.

    Is there a social obligation?

I think ineffective characters were a much larger problem in 3.x D&D than they were in 4th edition. In 3.x D&D it is very easy to make an ineffective character (much harder than in 4th edition). Many newbie players would fall into various PHB build traps, while even veteran players would...

A vision of a D&D retro-clone with new school elements

Red Box Fantasy has a lot of the things you are looking for, although certainly not all of them.

    Touch Tablets

I have an old Celeron 500 Tablet (bought on ebay for $100 maybe 4 years ago). I found it to be very useful at game conventions back when I played a lot of Living Greyhawk (I just copied the SRD onto the hard drive). However it really isn't nearly as useful as it would seem. Even searchable PDFs...

Public Domain Images - What's the deal?

I actually used some of the Kittelsen troll pictures. There is actually a ton of public domain fantasy artwork, and using nothing but that will give you a decidedly archaic style to your brand. However you run the risk of using all the same pictures as everyone else.

    PDF to Lulu question

You do indeed need to strip the links or else they will print out underlined.

Campaign Standards: Slavery yea or nay?

I use slavery sparsely. It is generally something that most civilized people don't think all that highly of, but at the same time there isn't usually all that much of a fuss about it. In my world slaves are used most often in mining, as it is dangerous, labor intensive and can't be made a whole...

Are the Retro Clones doing well?

What the heck, I will give some pretty solid numbers. Red Box Fantasy (which is one of the newest Retro-Clones and written mostly by me) has been out for about 2 months, has barely been promoted in any way and is still getting about 30 downloads of the free book a week and averaging about 5 or...

    Setting-fluff terminology? Simple or Unique?

Madchen means girl, however it just about means "young girl". So your word means "Young Girl Art", which can be taken to mean something pretty inappropriate.

    Setting-fluff terminology? Simple or Unique?

Or at least make sure the made up word sounds like an english word and follows english rules of spelling. Your players will trip all over words that don't.

    Setting-fluff terminology? Simple or Unique?

Actually I think Samurai SHOULD be called Knights if the game is played in English. That is plainly gibberish. The game is being played in English (or whatever the native language of your play group) and there is no need to select random words to be presented in Elvish or Dwarven or Fey, or...

    Moldvay vs. Mentzer... FIGHT!

Mentzer is better if for nothing else than that was the later ruleset and the Rules Cyclopedia used Mentzer rules, as did almost everything else (and it was available for about 5 times as long).
