I can see both sides. Surely all the monster, setting and historical lore are only suggestions for your game. You are free to pick up, modify, discard and create as you see fit. However I can also see that continuity between products and even editions is a good thing too

For me it was the fact that low level characters could go to the planes and survive. I loved the diagram in the back of the 1e PHB and to have that expanded as a place to explore in detail was fascinating. The philosophical element of the adventures also appealed to me. A change from the dungeon...

Not sure about the lack of stats for the Darklords given that we have stats for Strahd and other iconic figures such as Tiamat and the demon lords etc. Will be interesting to see how much detail we have on them to help the DM stat them up if they want to use them as the BBEG.

This looks great. I wonder if this is the future format of setting books. Could imagine a planescape setting would suit a similar production

Part of the fun for me as a DM is in extrapolating the mechanics of the game to what the PCs experience in the world. Sometimes its easy and sometimes a challenge and not every player appreciates it but I'm always striving for immersion

I agree. Comedy is never great when forced. Also don't like the terms Skittlewidgets and Kittiewidgets - too cutesy for me
