    D&D 4E 4e monster formatting tool

FWIW, the following is a Word macro I created, which does something similar on existing WotC data. If you're looking at a monster entry in the Compendium, you can: highlight the text, paste it into Word, highlight that text, then run this macro (which I assigned to the ctrl-Q key). It...

Creating Custom Swarms for Upcoming Mass Battle

I did something similar a while back, using OneBadEgg's Hardboiled Armies (for the most part). The PCs were commanding a ragtag militia against a much larger, more experienced army from a bigger town. It went surprisingly well, and I think they want to try it again sometime. The trickiest...

So a 2nd level Dragonborn Warden walks down the street... and does 613 damage?

I keep picturing the scene from the end of Animal House, where the band is stacked up at the end of the alley, still marching.

    Tracking Combat (Monster Cards?)

I do exactly what you describe. Each of my players fills out a card with all their relevant stats, updating as they level. Prior to each game, I go to the Compendium and shop for critters. When I find one I want to use, I simply copy the text and drop it into Word. The key step then is to...

Why I am giving up on Scales of War

When I ran Age of Worms, the default assumption was that each of the installments would advance the characters two levels. I simply told the players that would happen no matter what they did, and eliminated XP calculations. That made it easy to chop up each installments - all I had to do was...

Describe your campaign in 10 words or less

How about a haiku: Group fails Age of Worms; Kyuss builds necrotic nuke; Surprise, Waterdeep!

How to Map/Pace a Ruined City?

FWIW, there's an insanely detailed map of Waterdeep here. 12Mb pdf file that shows every single building in a very large city. Might be good for quick creation of a random area of your city, something like that.

Would you like Maddman's Forgotten Realms?

My players just entered Waterdeep last night. It's now become the "Land of 10,000 Wights", a result of their previous group getting annihilated by Dragotha in the 'Age of Worms'. There was no Spellplague, just a catastrophe brought about by Kyuss flexing his muscles. Mt. Waterdeep is a...

Clash of Steel up, normal link broken

Thanks from me as well. Just glancing through this, it says this about the key NPC: "A jeweled patch, its gems outlining the form of a cat, covers her right eye as she gazes appraisingly at you." The (rather attractive) picture of her on the first page shows the patch over the left eye.

My new DIY portable digital tabletop roleplaying map!

Regarding fog of war: I use Paint.Net, although Gimp/Photoshop probably work similarly. I open the map for editing, then create another map, totally black. I then copy/paste rectangular sections from the master map onto the black one as layers, one per room/area. When projecting the map, I...

    One Bad Egg going dark

Pity. We used their 'Hard-boiled Armies' to simulate a large-scale battle using 4e rules the other night, and it was very well received. Good stuff.

    Game Prep and Organization

How does that work for you? I've always wanted to try that. How big do the files get?

    Gaming Terrain, Tiles, and Battlemats

This is my long range plan also, although I want to go much bigger. What you're talking about will only yield about 13" x 18" worth of display. I want to go for the whole dungeon! *off to buy more lottery tickets*

    Gaming Terrain, Tiles, and Battlemats

Mounting the projector's not the hard part, believe it or not. It's getting the mirror (a 12" x 12" tile) in exactly the right position, safely and securely.

    Gaming Terrain, Tiles, and Battlemats

I miss my projector. The ability to use layers on the map to simulate fog of war was priceless. Well, there is a price. I haven't been willing to tear up my newly-remodeled basement ceiling to re-install it.

Dungeon 169 - Oasis of the Golden Peacock

I read through it right after it came out and remember thinking "this is one of the more original adventures they've put out here in a while." Very well done.

    Gabe's falling combat battle mat

Cool idea, but sadly, that would get knocked over in 30 seconds in our game, probably by a cat.

Standard encounter budget - too easy?

My guys are 10th level and smoking any encounter near their level. I've reached the point where I just start throwing together an group of critters for theme, then checking the level later, rather than following the guidelines strictly. You develop a pretty good idea of what will be a...

    $5 4E PHB @ GenCon!

    Exactly. Adventurers Vault 2 (retail) $29.95 + $5 PHB = $34.95, plus whatever else you happen to buy while you're at their booth. Amazon $19.77 + $23.07 = $42.84
