    D&D 5E Medium Armor Fix

Leather and Hide armor scale to 17 if the characters invest in Dex (likely) Chain classes are intended to only ever get 16. This is classes like Nature Cleric, Light Cleric, Valor Bard, etc. This is intended. Scale classes are intended to only every get 17. This is classes like Forge Cleric...

    D&D 5E Medium Armor Fix

All the ones I marked as "Not plate" do not fit the definition of plate or half plate as defined on PH 145. The Splint/Banded ones match that description and images of those armor types. The point is to remove subjectivity. I try to inform my opinion on what is "standard" by firstly...

    D&D 5E Medium Armor Fix

Nature, agreed. Light doesn't have it, do you mean Life? Life could go either way imo. Part of the problem here is the lack of granularity in "Heavy armor". Imo the system I suggest above allows clerics to have better variance here.

    D&D 5E Medium Armor Fix

On a third look there is definitely more plate than my original overview. Some results seem to have changed as well, but lets take a look as it is: There are 28 fighters there, 2 of which are duplicate (1 on each side), so 26. 13/26 are not plate 13/26 are plate So 50% on both sides...

    D&D 5E Medium Armor Fix

Google results of Fighters: 0/10 of the top results are wearing plate, 1-2/10 of the secondary results are wearing plate (the sure one being on a horse), 3/11 of the next results are wearing plate. 4-5/31 (13-15%) of the Fighters wearing plate. The number is 50% here, see below Google results...

    D&D 5E Medium Armor Fix

Hi Xeviat, I see your posts often (I lurk on most balance threads) and often agree with them. Thanks for stopping by and providing your thoughts I really like the 4e classifications. The result is far more realistic for my tastes - Barbarians and Rangers in Hide armor and very little plate. It...

    D&D 5E Medium Armor Fix

Stream of consciousness: I've also considered another approach, inspired by 4e: armor types based on the material This changes a bit more than a simple fix, but may be what I'm after. Class changes as a result: Barbarian has Leather, Hide armor. Different Bard has Leather, Hide armor. Valor...

    D&D 5E Medium Armor Fix

Perhaps I have not been clear enough with my goals: Medium armor being a viable alternative to heavy armor for heavy armor strength based characters is a secondary goal at best. The main goals are Medium Armor > Light armor and making medium armor viable for classes like Dex Ranger. Let me...

    D&D 5E Medium Armor Fix

I believe the changes do solve the problems that I'm looking to address. The goal isn't to make medium armor the prime choice for all characters, but viable for those who its intended for. I don't expect a fully Strength based Fighter to suddenly want to use Medium Armor. Heavy Armor is, and...

    D&D 5E Medium Armor Fix

Medium armor doesn't seem to hold up to expectations. There have been some threads about this, but here is my second approach (original OP below) I've also considered another approach, inspired by 4e: armor types based on the material This changes a bit more than a simple fix, but may be what...

D&D 5E Removing the bonus action - analysis

The twf math is well established. You can find many examples of it around and I've included mine at the bottom. Using math that does not include the adventuring day, chance to hit, or a myriad of other factors makes that math rather unusable. You're also comparing it to a greatsword build for a...

D&D 5E Removing the bonus action - analysis

Hmm doesn't sound like you have the clearest picture of the current balance. Twf already does about 80% of the damage a greatsword does and you want to make it worse? Polearm does 95% and sword and shield are around 80%. Twf needs buffs, not nerfs. There are many threads on this topic.

D&D 5E Racial Redux - Replacing racial ability modifiers.

I appreciate the idea, but all of them are very fiddly. The optimization moves to which races works most often in this campaign. imo either all races get +2/+1 to any ability scores or +1 to 3 ability scores (replacing the normal ability scores). Or find a way to remove racial bonuses, but then...

    D&D 5E OrcPub2: We've Come a Long Way

Hi RedOrc, As a developer of some other software products for D&D I want to firstly thank you for the time and effort that you have put into the product. I have some questions and comments: Would you consider adding filters to your monster list? I'm often looking for a certain type (human)...

D&D 5E Removing the bonus action - analysis

Indeed, setting it up in such a way really helps the TWF Ranger fulfill its role. As it stands a TWF Ranger makes no sense due to the crossover in bonus action between TWF and hunter's mark - it's a big deal. TWF still needs help, but this change bring the ranger more in line with where the...

D&D 5E Removing the bonus action - analysis

Ok, I now see what you're suggesting. On the initial read it didn't add any value by preventing the dual usage, but on my second read what you wrote above makes far more sense. Defining current actions as "regular actions" which prevents the loop of using this action to trigger other special...
