    GrimJack and Alien Legion RPGs

Its the chicken or the egg. To get people to donate, you'd half to have Carl Potts on board. To get Carl involved, you'd probably need the donations! If might be worth it to run it by him to see how he likes the Ransom Model. He might think its a great idea and work a deal with you.

Would this be as inappropriate as I think?

When was i? If ALL they were doing is releasing OGC, i wouldn't have said a darn thing. But this license and their OGC is darn well linked and i think to say otherwise is shading the issue. Nice. Self-defeating? Maybe self-deluding. But not in the way that you think, i'm sure. If i'm missing...

    GrimJack and Alien Legion RPGs

I think you're right. I'd love to see someone try it. I just heard about it yesterday and i'm already loving the idea of the Ransom Model, which i think has enormous potential. If handled well i think the Ransom Model could work as well with a Name Brand product as it could with a Name Brand...

Their reputation. How would their reputation be harmed by just releasing OGC into the community like everybody else? They thought free use and spreading OGC was great when they were just one of the mooks trying make a living, but now that they are big and powerful (as far as the d20 industry...

Well, if you have porch sellers in your area who live off of you're business, it'll help. If you have porch sellers in your area who don't give a damn about you or you're business, it won't help. ;)

I'll take them at their word that they are just trying to reach customers that can't buy physical copies. Much like Necromancer games. They sold what, 34 copies legally? I wonder how many of them were those hard luck, lives in Zimbabwe customers, and how many of them were regular customers of...

Pirating RPGs. (And were not talking "arggg" pirate stuff here.)

Yes one can. Pdf publishers judge the market constantly. When someone decides to not buy a pdf because of its price (or buy once the price is lowered), they are judging the market. You might not like it, Eden or others that don't want to lower their prices might not like it. (though we know that...

Oh, i absolutely agree that is was an experiment. They said as much when they first introduced the Superlink program. I don't think i heard of anyone getting denied a superlink project. Has it happened? That would lend some merit to the claim it was IP protection. But i then wonder why, given...

Which is why i said it wasn't about money for a lot of these guys and the rest just like free stuff and don't care about the particulars. Okay, i'll respond one last time to these posts that are stuffing words into my mouth. I didn't call them freedom fighters, you have. I didn't AT ALL say...

I feel pretty safe in believing that most pdf buyers would blink at a $28 price tag, regardless how much color it had in it.

I'm not sure who you are talking to, but its not me. I said it doesn't make it all right. I was just pointing out that they have no interest in their pdf business actually succeedingly, which you yourself say they admit. Thats not bagging on people. Go pick a fight with someone else.

I hadn't realize they are charging for the use of their license. Well. It still looks like they are trying to control their material to me. Creating a license for people to use their material "officially", or the select few for free, doesn't protect their trademarks anymore than they already...

I think for a lot of guys this doesn't have anything to do with money. They think they are screwing the man, or the system or something. For the others, its about free stuff, if if they won't use it. Look at RPGNow, you can sell a pdf and get under a 100 downloads for a good game book of...

Denis Detwiller's "Ransom" was paid by one person? Cool!

I just read about this Ransom Model publishing scheme today in an email. What a terrific idea! Very cool. Although i don't see it working for small publishers or no-names, of course, but some of the big boys could pull it off like Stolze did.

You heard it here first folks! Soon to be released at RPGnow, Ronin Arts newest pdf - "Empty clips, Full graves" Show your players you mean business!! I'm a Cyberpunk myself, so deadly games have never been a problem with me. I've toyed with just having Constitution = Hit Points, as a...

Would this be as inappropriate as I think?

I am sorry if this is thread-jacking, btw. I only wanted to point out how the whole license thing might affect whether people use non-wotc OGC or not. Most probably don't want to mess with trying to skirt around trademarks or things like that, so the the 3rd-party community-ogc model just...

Would this be as inappropriate as I think?

It might just be close enough to make a difference for many. Most probably won't care one way or the other, though. Yes, i know. Thats my point. Why else produce a license like this if its not to control use of your gaming material? How does it "protect" their trademarks anymore than the OGL...
