[Playtest 2] Flanking, Combat Advantage and Melee Rogues

Probably by the time dndnext ships but CERTAINLY with the first splat book covering rogues they'll have combat advantage and be able to sneak attack almost trivially. On a other thread people are arguing that the absurd sneak attack damage is ok because rogues will only occassionally get it...

[Playtest 2] Wizard and Rogue HD

I think that most of us realize that :-). Wizards are quite squishy in Pathfinder where they get D6 a level PLUS usually another hit pt per level from favoured class. And DndNext has significantly higher damage numbers than Pathfinder. Wizards (and rogues, etc) are VERY squishy in DndNext. I...

Oh My Goodness! That looks like D&D!

Just a strong impression that their suggested equipment, backgrounds etc are often very non optimal. For example, suggesting a fighter takes Survivor. Or suggesting that a non battle cleric cares about Strength. There were other more egregious examples that I noted on reading all the rules but...

Oh My Goodness! That looks like D&D!

In my D&D of choice (Pathfinder) classes are still very significant. The easiest way to build a skill monkey is still to go Rogue or Bard, the easiest way to build a melee fighter is still to go with Ftr or Barbarian, etc. So I have no problem with a class based game as long as it has enough...

Oh My Goodness! That looks like D&D!

Well, it certainly reminds me of AD&D in a lot of ways. And it is probably playable. But it is a system that I absolutely will NOT be playing as long as I have any choice in the matter whatsoever. In every single respect it is (for my tastes, obviously) worse than Pathfinder. Note : I'm NOT...

Pathfinder 1E How does the magus perform at high levels?

Almost everything you'll want to look at is up at the d20pfsrd site. The Dawnflower Dervish is in Inner Sea Magic. Its a bard archetype that inspires itself with +2 to hit and +2 damage as a move action. The Dervish Dance feat allows you to use your Dex for to hit and damage with a scimitar...

Pathfinder 1E How does the magus perform at high levels?

I presume that you've already considered the Dervish Dancing Magus? Opinions seem fairly split whether this is better than the Str based build. The key advantage, of course, is the high crit weapon. And it is just cooler :-) If you're considering dipping at all the Dawnflower Dervish Bard...

TSR/WotC Adventures - Are they REALLY any good? (Warning: Possible Spoilers)

I haven't played either of those although I HAVE heard good things about both of them. I'll change my opinion slightly: The WOTC adventures that I've played, run or read are, at best, a little better than mediocre. There are many adventures that I have no personal opinion of. I think that...

TSR/WotC Adventures - Are they REALLY any good? (Warning: Possible Spoilers)

I'm one of those who feel that WOTC adventures range from poor to at best a bit better than mediocre. It really doesn't matter what TSR adventures were like. The state of the art is very different now. As are the people involved Paizo knows how to make good adventures. WOTC really doesn't.

D&D 5E Do you want D&D Next to succeed?

If WOTC is getting anything approximating the number of people giving feedback that they're hoping for then neither really makes any difference. 95+% of the feedback that is actually used will either be 1) The multiple choice surveys 2) What the designers see and hear for themselves in their...

D&D 5E Do you want D&D Next to succeed?

Wow, those are some insanely biased questions. Not if it is so popular that it makes it harder for me to find players of games that I do want to play. Otherwise, sure. No. I don't care about the brand. I think that is likely PART of their motivation. Keeping their paycheques is likely...

    Rule-of-Three: 07/24/2012

You're making the assumption that the instant somebody unsubscribes they get dropped from the total. There has to be SOME lag. Given how good at software WOTC has been in the past there is the possibility of a CONSIDERABLE lag (months or even years). Although their move to offline tools was...

D&D 5E How Can D&D Next Win You Over?

One of two ways 1) Be so successful that I have no choice but to play it if I want to play with new groups 2) Provide me something better for me and my groups than the current alternatives. Where better is, of course, as defined by me and my groups. As the following probably shows, I'm not...

    D&D 5E Another D&D Next Playtest Survey

Sure there is. It is all an illusion. Fortunately, the guards are too stupid to realize that and disbelieve.

    Pathfinder News: Sale at Paizo.Com

If you buy enough shipping, even to Canada, isn't that bad. Buying $100 means Paizo chops $10 off the shipping cost. I just but together a bundle of stuff (map packs, modules, adventure paths, etc) and it ended up at about $25 shipping on $102 worth of stuff. Not a bad deal at all (still nets...

    Full Release when?

I think that they're more likely to shelve DnD Next entirely than they are to delay it until 2014. If something very substantial isn't ready by Gencon 2013 then I think it will be killed (or "indefinitely postponed").

New to Gaming- Need some help

Being creative with rules and games is superb and lots of fun. A great many experienced gamers also innovate to some extent or other. That being said, it would probably be best to get some experience of games under your belt before doing too much in this vein. As in anything, there is some basic...

Republishing, Synnibarr: The original Scifi-Fantasy RPG. Kickstarter Project

While there are some that claim that ALL of Synnibarr is meant to be a joke I think the consensus is that McCracken is completely serious in just about everything that he writes. Including his autobiography :-).

    Advantage/Disadvantage Impressions

I think that you are seriously underestimating how innumerate many North Americans are. Its quite appalling how bad most peoples basic arithmetic skills are.

Republishing, Synnibarr: The original Scifi-Fantasy RPG. Kickstarter Project

The one claim that I think that I'm most amazed by is the claim that it had nearly 1% of the "world market share". Presumably he is counting only Sci-Fi/Fantasy games set on a world that travels the galaxies and has Bears shooting laser beams from their eyes :-). Still, 52 backers at this point...
