    Where's the American Fantasy RPG?

We’re reading Baum now? Somehow I doubt it. Quoth the raven—nevermore. At least Edith Nesbit got there first. Always interesting to take a walk down memory lane. I’ll tell you two tomes that really haven’t aged well: ‘The Adventures of Huck Finn’ and ‘The Kamasutra’. Must we really lament...

The Dark Eye - Gods of Aventuria Interview

I’m presuming the Drakensang video game (2008 release) uses the rules pretty darn close to printed material’s rule set. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drakensang:_The_Dark_Eye If so, this Wikipedia article contains about everything I could want to know to learn more about how this game works...

Kickstarted Tabletop Games Do Well In 2020 Despite Pandemic

The bottleneck might even be fulfillment. Strongly suspect that most projects will be delayed in their overall delivery date. People will only want to be dealing with only so many unfulfilled pledges — and overall elasticity that’s going to be stressed. That and the psychological factors of...

D&D 5E Less Epic Adventures - Rime of the Frostmaiden

A tale of two pitches. You are on the hunt for an ancient secret, delving deep into the frozen wastes to find answers in the Caves of Hunger. But you’re not the only one on the trail. Can you best the maddened wizards of the Arcane Brotherhood, triumph over the blasts of winter, and foil the...

    D&D 5E WotC's Jeremy Crawford Talks D&D Alignment Changes

Or to put it a lot more simply — when D&D outgrows stories of good guys and bad guys, there’s not going to be a whole lotta ground left to cover.

    D&D 5E WotC's Jeremy Crawford Talks D&D Alignment Changes

It’s a little weird to think we’ve just been told that all future worlds will lack statements like “these are people of culture X, they usually like this...(they’re bad)...it’s where they fit—their piece of the puzzle in THIS story (unless you’re an “off-trope” storybreaker”. Which seemed...

D&D 5E 'The Thing' Inspired Rime of the Frostmaiden Has Player Secrets [Updated]

I think it’s SOUNDS awesome. But I’m worried it’ll be watered down—like the adventure plays the same way WITHOUT it. Secrets that is. players in my campaigns interact with NPCs, I hand them a card with what they learn. Players drive the pace of the reveal. And nobody is so stupid as to notice...

The Fumble: Game Master Secretly Plotting Against Online Players Who Don't Use Their Mute Button

Interestingly enough while my company is currently getting hundreds of people together on regular conference calls and starting EACH one with multiple reminders about the “audience” staying on mute...when they can actually easily MUTE YOU but EVERY call multiple people manage to unmute...

WotC Comparing EN World's Demographics to the D&D Community's

Aren’t things ever ok the way they are? for more people X to play, would the game need to change for majority Y? And would that reduce overall participation? it’s enough that the experience is beloved. And evergreen.

D&D General Worlds of Design: Is Fighting Evil Passé?

To the extent the game is based on creativity and expression—any repetitious themes sap joy from the experience. To the extent it’s killing and looting—it hardly matters. Also, see the age/life-experience of the human pondering the article’s title.

D&D 5E Most User-Friendly VTT? (Dice Games In The Time of Covid)

The way I used to play - maps & minis The way I play - description & decisions Could well be that by removing use of hit points almost entirely, a videoconference would generate some sessions you’ll treasure.

Might do. Opposites are not mutually exclusive.

D&D General Worlds of Design: Shooting Magic Missiles from Silly Places

Silly and dark are opposites. Not so for silly and serious. We’re talking tone here—no reason your players can’t be engaged and also whimsical. The advice to that GM should be the classic, “what do your players want, and how can you use that to create an experience you also find meaningful?”

Check Out The WFRP Gamemaster's Screen

I’ll admit I’m eyeing this image as the backdrop for an entirely fantastic n-scale railroad. People who model the real world have photographic background panels behind their buildings and scenery. I doubt it would work as is—but enlarged versions of some high res images would probably do it...
