Learn about D&D organized play options

The Gamer's Syndicate in DC has sort of announced a living campaign: Sounds like it's DC-area only, so I'm not sure if it counts for the purposes of this list.

Epic 4th Edition: We Fought The Gods

Just for hypothetical funsies: an avenger picks up a +6 Vicious Fullblade. Fullblades are high crit weapons, so it'll do +3d12 on a crit at level 30. Since it's vicious, it also does +6d12 on a crit. Our avenger has a laser-like focus on damage, whatever the consequences, so he takes Final Oath...

Any Living Forgotten Realms adventures good?

EPIC 3-1 was just released; it's the best epic adventure available to date. (Given that the LFR authors have had years to learn how people use and abuse the system, this is not entirely surprising. But it's great story, too.)

    DDI VT Beta thread

I'm 99% sure it's GameTable Online's Metagame platform. They've worked with WotC before, the applet is signed by GameTable Online, Inc., and the servers are hosted in the same place GTO hosts their servers. That second point is probably the most convincing.

Wizards: Musings on the new DDi disaster

Exactly. Although the Rules Compendium is a general framework for 4e in a way that the Heroes books or even the Monster Vault is not. Fun exercise for the home viewer: how much would you have to change/cut from the Compendium before you had something as generic as GURPS? From a branding...

Wizards: Musings on the new DDi disaster

Exactly. The non-obvious thing about 4e is that it's a much more flexible framework than any iteration of D&D previously. Essentials demonstrates this very well, by using the core 4e framework to create an experience that hews closer to the old school D&D than I would have thought possible. As...

Ashes of Athas, a new shared world Darksun campaign from Wizards

I'm not sure it's an official Wizards thing. LFR is barely an official Wizards thing these days, and Dave Christ (who runs DDXP) is not a Wizards employee. It's totally possible that this is a fairly independent campaign. Presumably they'd need the OK to use "Athas" in the name, of course.

    [Heroic Solos] Lividius, Tiefling Murderer

Note also that he's a solo who's all by himself; we know how quickly those die. The high hit points and the higher than normal defenses are just going to keep him alive for... well, let's see. 240 hit points. The PCs will have their dailies and encounters, plus an action point. That's a four or...

    [Heroic Solos] Lividius, Tiefling Murderer

Hm, they seem OK to me. Let's see -- his AC is 2 points high for a level 4 Brute, his Fortitude is 1 point high, and his Reflex and Will are both 1 point low. So a little bit hard on melee characters. On the other hand, a level 4 Soldier would have a 20 AC. Coming at it the other way: if you...

Future of WotC PDFs: Unofficial Sneak Preview?

This is true. Let's use Amazon's storage service costing for the sake of estimating. Amazon charges a maximum of 15 cents per gigabyte downloaded. Assume 50 megabytes for a 4e PDF. That's .75 cents per PDF -- not 75 cents, three-quarters of a cent. It'd get cheaper if enough PDFs were...

Random Places you've seen ads for Essentials

Ad networks are smarter these days. WotC isn't necessarily buying space on Tennis.com; they're buying ads from an ad network that knows you were just on ENWorld, so you're probably a gamer, so they're showing you gamer ads.

D&D 4E Playing 4E without miniatures and the battle grid.

I agree, the Fiction First hack is really good. The question came up on RPG Stack Exchange recently, and got a bunch of answers, including Fiction First. :) Some of the others might also be useful.

    Chargespam combos

If you're playing a druid, there's a somewhat feat-heavy trick for beast form. First, Stampede is a heroic tier feat that allows you to move 2 squares as a free action after you charge someone. Second, Opportunistic Withdrawal is a paragon tier feat that allows you to not provoke opportunity...

WotC is *NOT* Evil: THE FINALE

I just wanted to highlight this. WotC has hundreds of thousands if not millions of customers. It's not reasonable to expect them to monitor everyone's Web page for violations!

Heroes of the Fallen Lands - Feat Preview

Mind you, I'm not sure that's good design, because clearly people hate having that flaw and they hate it when the monsters hit more often than they do. Asymmetrical play isn't always satisfying. But I've always been pretty sure it's the intent.

Heroes of the Fallen Lands - Feat Preview

I keep telling people that high level combat math is designed around the idea that everyone will have at least one low NAD, which means monsters can do enough damage to be threatening, but nobody ever listens. :)

Class Acts: Sorcerer - "The Shivs of Sorcery"

Tasty flavor! Ensorcelled Blade is an interesting at-will; it doesn't beat Dragonfrost or Burning Spray for me, but I wish I was playing a human cause it'd be my third at-will. LIghtning Cuts is a minor? Nice. I, too, am curious about Dragon Blade Channeling.

Is WotC's policy of no 4.5 good or bad?

Problem is, everyone agrees with you... but everyone's list of things and changes is different. I personally don't want to see a 4.5 because I want WotC to dampen the cycle of gamer paranoia about new editions. When and if 5e happens, it'd be nice if we didn't have to hear people say that WotC...
