    D&D 5E Would you change a monster's hit points mid-fight?

Okay, you're asking me several questions. Let me see if I can respond to them all. First of all, I have never seen a DM do so much fudging that a player's choices didn't mean anything. Quite the contrary, as a matter of fact. The DM's who fudge the most, tend to be focused in their style on...

    D&D 5E Would you change a monster's hit points mid-fight?

Those aren't the rules, but you based your opinion on them so I'll explain. It's just your play-style and preference to not fudge anything. The rules actually say first that the DM should change any rule he wants to, or discard any. I've heard it called Rule 0. The rules do not instruct the...

    Keeping a Group Together

Everyone, remember it isn't cheating to do any modifications you want as DM. Whatever you are trying to accomplish, try to be fair to everyone and develop your own style and procedures. Some good reasons to modify during the game are to a) keep a PC from dying (this is far and away the best...

    D&D 5E Would you change a monster's hit points mid-fight?

Let the DM run the game in their favorite way.

    D&D 5E Would you change a monster's hit points mid-fight?

You wouldn't be doing anything wrong. This is a good example of fudging when you have extensive expertise, and not to get an encounter to be more challenging but for another reason. There is no justification for anyone to call this cheating.

    D&D 5E Would you change a monster's hit points mid-fight?

You seem dead-set on calling it cheating. Why? Please reconsider, because the stigma against fudging is dead wrong.

    Keeping a Group Together

I'd just want the game to go on. I would object to the attention brought to the subject, and just invite the DM to tell us if the monster hit or something. The particulars of how the DM does things don't interest me as a player. I just want to stay immersed in my character's role, and...

D&D 5E What does magic immunity count against?

It should be taken as whenever the spells work against the rakshasa. He is untouchable by them. If a wall is there, he can move passed it. But he can't dispel it automatically by touching it. Only he is immune to it.

D&D 5E Anyone using software combat tracking with 5e?

I have long used my own format for monsters, typed out on the computer. I find it's labor-intensive, though, and I would try to run the game just using the books first before getting into that again.

    Keeping a Group Together

The subject came up in a thread about whether a DM ever would change the hit points of monsters during an encounter. This is an example of "fudging", when the DM overrules what the dice say, or makes other modifications in the middle of play without the players' awareness. I don't want DM's to...

    D&D 5E Would you change a monster's hit points mid-fight?

I guess I'll share the following for everyone, too. The Last King of Scotland is showing where I am now, and in the very beginning it shows one of the main characters spinning a globe to randomly choose where in the world he will go. He puts his finger to the globe, and says he will go...

    D&D 5E Would you change a monster's hit points mid-fight?

That technically isn't a say in it, emdw45. You would be walking out, but as a player when you're there you don't get to tell the DM what to do. My goal is to keep the table playing together, for the game to bring together and entertain the most people. I don't think you should walk out on...

    D&D 5E Would you change a monster's hit points mid-fight?

To all the DM's out there: do anything and everything you want. You have every right to fudge or change anything, at any time, with no notice to the players.

    D&D 5E Would you change a monster's hit points mid-fight?

Anything that threatens the DM's authority can get out as far as I am concerned. It is a misunderstanding you have about it that it is cheating or dishonest. You a) have no right to call him a cheater, and b) may make him feel bad for suggesting such a thing. Only the DM knows what he is...

    D&D 5E Would you change a monster's hit points mid-fight?

The players do not get a say in it. I know it sounds harsh, but it has to remain secret to maintain the illusion that the monster is trying to hit.

D&D 5E Magic Items: DMs Thoughts.

Yes, that would be unfortunate. The descriptions in the game should explain relative choices, and the pro's and con's.

D&D 5E Magic Items: DMs Thoughts.

Well, what is a trap option to you? To me, it's not one that just is less quality, it's one where knowing that will be hard for a new player. The description of the weapons should say how they are inferior or effective. For those interested, the old 2nd Edition weapons, especially including...

D&D 5E I gave my players too much gold

Magic item shops need some extra protection if you're going to use them in 5th Edition. Wizards are very much more powerful than anyone else, and rogues in particular aren't even that much weaker than fighters anymore. They don't represent as much of a deterrent, and they need extra protection...

Any trap options, be it for weapons or anything else, is very bad game design.

Confirm or Deny: D&D4e would be going strong had it not been titled D&D

I guess that' how they feel. It is a bit insulting, but if the older editions truly are regarded as no good now it's something we have to live with.
