D&D 5E What do you think should be done with alignment?

I would dump alignment in favor of turning Traits, Bonds, and Flaws into a more robust system. Keep it as an optional, legacy system. But if there's no actual mechanics behind it, then why have it in the first place?

D&D 5E Do you find alignment useful in any way?

I don't find alignment to be either useful or narratively compelling. Having read through other systems, I prefer the BRP-derived systems presented in Pendragon and Runequest Glorantha, with specific Traits/Passions/Runes/etc. More evocative (at least to me) and better integrated into the...

D&D General What’s the most gruesome thing that can befall an adventurer?

Rot grubs as well. The idea of something worming its way into your body and devouring you from the inside is... shivers.

D&D 5E What Will Be The Next D&D Books To Be Released In The Coming Years?

I expect a Volo's/Mordernkainen's-like book focused primarily on Fey and Dragons, with reprints of monsters from previous adventure and setting books thrown in for good measure. This book would naturally have new PC race/lineage options and possibly new subclasses. Another adventure book set on...

D&D 5E Are humanoid mono-cultures being replaced with the Rule of Three?

Whose canon? Orcs can be whatever the DM wants them to be at their table and in their setting. There's no canon police coming to break down his door.

D&D 5E Are humanoid mono-cultures being replaced with the Rule of Three?

Families that may not care whether the bandit lives or dies, given their line of work. And I agree, DnD generally expects a certain comfort or acceptance with death and violence, at leasts that's how I have generally played my characters. I generally have little problem with "evil races*". I'm...

D&D 5E What is one hp of damage in real life?

Remembering that one really embarrassing moment from high school. The one that you only remember randomly before going to sleep, even over a decade later. 1 point of Psychic damage.

D&D 5E What is one hp of damage in real life?

I'm debating whether twisting my ankle during a run is a 1 or 2, depends if I succeed on my Dex saving throw. Who knew the CR of a slippery curb could be so high?

    D&D 5E Volo's 5e vs Tasha's 5e where do you see 5e heading?

Not to stray off-topic, but the current weapon system represents to me this awkward balance that 5e has of offering essentially meaningless choice for a PC, being simultaneously simple but with meaningless complications. A glaive and halberd have separate listings, but are actually completely...

D&D 5E What is one hp of damage in real life?

Depends. Often I like to imagine losing HP as like a glancing blow or a hit that momentarily knocks the wind out of you. No blood or bruises, just enough to catch someone off-balance. It's when a character of monster is lower than half of their total hp that damages starts becoming more visible...

    D&D 5E Volo's 5e vs Tasha's 5e where do you see 5e heading?

What I wonder with 5th edition is at what point will we start seeing noticeable product fatigue, where the number of sourcebooks in publication becomes a real, or at least perceived, barrier of entry for new players. While WotC has had a slow release schedule, their current publication strategy...

    D&D 5E Volo's 5e vs Tasha's 5e where do you see 5e heading?

    Because it's a nonsensical choice?

    D&D General First D&D Character?

I only started playing DnD in 2018. My first character was a V. Human Oath of Vengeance Paladin named Alberic von Talheim. My vision of him was a wandering do-gooder with a less-than-merciful sense of justice, very much inspired by my interest in Warhammer Fantasy. Our first-time DM for the...

D&D 5E Amenities For A Trusty Home Town?

Apothecary/Herbalist: for your healing or poisoning needs Roman-style Public Bath: what better way to unwind after a grueling adventure? Fence/Antiquarian/Eccentric Collector: someone who will handsomely pay the party for all the weird loot they find.

    D&D 5E Help me design Fantasy Americas D&D (+)

If you're not familiar with it already, there's a interesting blog that goes through various creatures from mythology and folklore, including the Americas. It should be a good ideas generator. The Inuit ones are particularly weird.

    D&D 5E Help me design Fantasy Americas D&D (+)

Great timing! I recently finished reading Manifest Destiny from Image Comics, a pretty good fantasy/survival horror take on the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Some of the more non-spoilery ideas from the comic would be: Bison minotaurs/centaurs cyclopean sasquatches giant bullfrogs fungal zombies...

D&D General Spirits and Souls in D&D. What the Heck is the Difference?

For my own homebrew setting a spirit is broadly defined as a being that normally lives within the spiritual plane; so nymphs, elementals, ghosts, gods big and small, etc. All beings (material or spiritual) have souls, but really only with material beings (plants, animals, mortals, etc.) do you...

D&D General What are your favorite DM Advice Media?

I consider The Alexandrian's Gamemastery 101 collection of articles to be essential reading for any GM. His youtube channel is also off to a good start. I generally think WebDM offers good advice for worldbuilding. I could never get into Angry GM's verbose writing style. Reminds me of why I...
