D&D 5E How common are "petty" spell casters?

Yes, more or less. And it would be, on average, two NPCs who can cast 6th level spells for this specific region in my setting. This number may be more, may be less. The chart is a guideline, not a straitjacket. Important NPCs, such as demigods, heroes, and other major figures don't need to obey...

D&D 5E How common are "petty" spell casters?

The list really operates best when I'm thinking broadly about settlements and generic NPCs. A spellcaster who has access to 7th level spells and higher would be a very important NPC, such as a lich or archdruid; someone who is already essentially one in a million. My campaigns have never gone...

D&D 5E How common are "petty" spell casters?

Working as intended, at least for my purposes.

D&D 5E How common are "petty" spell casters?

For my own setting, I developed this guideline for the rarity of spellcasters: 1 and 10 Rule: On average, 1% of the population knows some cantrips + 1st level spells, then 10% for every spell level after that. Spell level Example Population Example City 9th 1 8th 10 7th 100 6th...

RPG Evolution: Older Than You Look

One of the many things I like about Adventures in Middle-Earth is that each race has a recommended "Adventuring Age". For example, dwarves typically adventure from years 50-100 and then settle down with their families afterwards. I think it puts everyone in a similar position in terms of...

D&D (2024) 48 subclasses in the 2024 PHB: What are they?

Ideally, each class will have 4 subclasses available to them during the playtest, with Cleric and Wizard both receiving reworked subclass concepts (they don't really need so many). I doubt it will happen, though.

D&D 5E How Are Orcs Different In Your World? (+)

For my orcs I liberally borrowed ideas from the trolls (Uz) of Glorantha.

D&D (2024) I am highly skeptical of the Unreal VTT

Will there be a VR market for this? Maybe I've been living under a rock, but to me VR remains a very niche product, both because of a lack of killer apps and the sheer expense of good set ups. VR would probably be a very small percent of the overall user base. Also, is a D&D vtt a good use for...

D&D (2024) I am highly skeptical of the Unreal VTT

If Magic Arena is anything to go by, I wouldn't be surpised if this VTT has extensive cosmetic microtransactions. "Give your character elven plate armor for only $1.99. Blue Trolls for $0.99. Orc cosmetic set for $4.99." Some will be fine with this. Others will see it as nickel and diming in a...

D&D (2024) 2024 PHB Feats and Misc discussion

Going off the rules in Xanathar's, A potion of healing can be made after 1 day and 25gp if you have a herbalism kit. PHB rules would be 10 days and 25gp. If I'm reading it correctly.

D&D (2024) 2024 PHB Feats and Misc discussion

This was mainly "biking home from work" brainstorming, but I wonder if Crafter would be more worthwhile if it allowed a character to make two items for the same resource and time cost as one. This would be quite powerful, but the current effects are pretty lame by themselves. Doubly so when you...

D&D (2024) First playtest thread! One D&D Character Origins.

Someone could do the math on this because I'm too tired, but I think the Arcane list is a bit big and could probably be split into a fourth spell list, similar to P2E's Occult.

Crafter: Discount. Whenever you buy a nonmagical item, you receive a 20 percent discount on it. Faster Crafting. When you craft an item using a tool with which you have Tool Proficiency, the required crafting time is reduced by 20 percent. I sleep.

Happy to see that neither Great Weapon Master nor Sharpshooter are in the 1st-level Feat list. That should help encourage variety. I feel like Lucky is a strong pick for Humans though. Having essentially 3 points of Inspiration feels strong.

I'm currently in the midst of DM burnout so... yes.

D&D 5E How do you feel about PC abilities being nerfed by the DM?

I've only ever nerfed one ability, and that was the Twilight Cleric's Twilight Sanctuary. I was very upfront about it with the player before he decided his domain. He still picked Twilight as his domain and has felt strong despite the change. I've never felt the need to nerf anything else.
