D&D 5E Warlock, Pact of the Blade, Melee

Sorry for not playing the game the right way. It has a massive influence because the game is designed around combat and the design of the combat system promotes damage as the most effective means of succeeding in an encounter. Furthermore, there is a significant difference in power between...

D&D 5E Warlock, Pact of the Blade, Melee

That's an unfair way to look at this. Should it be as good as a fighter? No. But it still has to be objectively good and it just plain isn't when stacked up to other class options. This is a problem with a lot of the sub-classes. There are very clear good and bad choices which in turn don't...

D&D 5E Know Your Enemy - As Cool as it sounds?

It's really not as good as it seems at first. It doesn't actually tell you what a creature's statistics are, it only informs you of whether or not those statistics are higher or lower than your own. That's really not very useful unless you're very unfamiliar with the game.

D&D 5E I would pay a gazillion billion dollars for a consolidated Realms tome

At this point I'd prefer the forgottenrealms.wikia.com to be given some more attention and love. Lots of entries need updating and polishing. But currently it's my go to for anything not covered in SCAG.

D&D 5E Anyone else hoping that the next campaign book WotC releases is 15th to 20th levels?

When the rumours started flying and the popular opinion seemed to indicate that it might be Undermountain, part of me was hoping that, because of the powerful nature of the denizens there, it would be a 15th to 20th level adventure. I really think it's time given how long 5e has been out and how...

Spells that could be improved / better designed

Is this too powerful for Witch Bolt? That is still severely limited by the line of sight and distance conditions but the damage makes the spell worthwhile casting and maintaining concentration on. It's especially nice for something like a bladesinger or eldritch knight or pact blade warlock who...

    D&D 5E Enhancing "Storm King's Thunder"

EN World posted some images of the runes but I think they've been eaten up by the data base loss. Anyone know where else I can find these?

    D&D 5E Enhancing "Storm King's Thunder"

Does anyone know of any fan-created maps for this adventure? Blando's & Schley's offerings are a bit spare. Or she could've simply been wearing a Ring of Mind-Shielding.

D&D 5E Can someone clarify the mechanics of surprise for me?

In terms of order and initiative. A good example is one situation I had where a character with the Alert feat got to act before someone else who initiated the combat. The PC's were talking to an enemy and one of their NPC allies had a high enough stealth while invisible that none of them knew...

D&D 5E Can someone clarify the mechanics of surprise for me?

Whenever combat starts, initiative is rolled by everyone. DM then determines who is surprised, if anyone. Initiative turns begin. As soon as a surprised creature has had it's turn in the initiative order, it is no longer surprised. Easy. It only starts getting complicated with the Alert feat...

D&D 5E New D&D product listed on Amazon

What I would love more, whether it's Undermountain or something else entirely, is a module that takes characters from 15th to 20th-levels. It's time, people. Past due, in fact.

    D&D 5E Opinions about Storm King's Thunder?

Great Upheaval stuff. 90% of the content is completely useless. It's just a bit of description about a room and nothing more. Nothing is in the room. It even says, numerous times, "There is nothing of interest here." Well, great... then why did you make me read it? Why not just number the places...

    D&D 5E Opinions about Storm King's Thunder?

I've so far read the first thirty pages of the 256-page adventure module. Within the first thirty pages, I should be excited, intrigued, wanting to read further, imagining the cool encounters and shenanigans of the players and enemies and NPC's. This was the case with both Out of the Abyss and...

D&D 5E Which feats would you change, why would you change them & how would you change them?

According to the feedback and discussion here I have some suggestions for changes to feats: Grappler • You have advantage on attack rolls against a creature you are grappling. • You can use your action to try to pin a creature grappled by you. To do so, make another grapple check. If you...

D&D 5E Which feats would you change, why would you change them & how would you change them?

I would actually consider that a bit worse than -5/+10. A flat bonus to damage would then make it an unquestionable must-have. At least with the -5 it creates a scenario where it is not always the best option for every attack. I rather like the +1 to Strength idea. It plays well with the...

D&D 5E Which feats would you change, why would you change them & how would you change them?

I would worry that Heavy Armor Master would make a character far too resilient against multi-attack creatures with such a change. Maybe with your example, limit it to work against only one attack per turn? Linguist definitely needs a boost. A true master of languages would not need 200 days to...

D&D 5E Which feats would you change, why would you change them & how would you change them?

I wasn't sure if this was meant to go into the Homebrew section or here. Since it's not finished homebrew but rather a discussion on what is and isn't wrong or right about a mechanical aspect of the system, I decided that this was the most appropriate forum to post it. Hopefully that was the...
