    The "G" in RPG

Separation of player vs character? With 3rd person: "My character does x." You're removed from the character itself and focusing on the game aspect. With 1st person: "I do x". You're taking on a persona and focusing on the role-play aspect.

    The "G" in RPG

I've given this some thought. I don't like the formation of the question, for the very same reasons you point out in the OP. Perhaps, rather than separating the RP from the G, a better way to view it is the ratio of 1st person vs. 3rd person. No matter what rules/mechanics you're using, 3rd...

D&D General D&D Red Box: Who Is The Warrior?

I do wonder how many women feel that this is a victory for representation vs. non-women who think it is. I’d tend to lean with whatever the consensus from women is (I know it’s impossible to get that data.) If the consensus from women is “yes, we feel represented”, then great! I’m glad they...

D&D General What Edition was it?

I really appreciated some of the love and respect that was given to 4th in the video.

What adventure module have you pillaged the most without using the main plot?

Not so much for the content (although it’s good and I’ve used that too) but I was really impressed with the format of Dragon of Icespire Peak from the D&D 5e Essentials Kit. It serves as a clean, modular template for creating and managing maps and locations, NPCs, hooks, and sequence. It’s...

D&D General D&D "influencers" need to actively acknowledge other games.

I’m sure there are channels out there that are obsessed with hating D&D and/or WoTC. Polarized people are gonna polarize. But naming your channel in a way that lets people know you’re not a D&D focused channel is not the same as “shitting on D&D with mouth foaming rants every chance we get.”...

D&D General D&D "influencers" need to actively acknowledge other games.

That all makes sense to me and still doesn’t seem like it’s disparaging D&D. Given that D&D is the biggest/most popular rpg out there, it makes sense that a reviewer might show the contrast between how HP or Armor works differently in one game compared to D&D — and I still don’t see that as...

D&D General D&D "influencers" need to actively acknowledge other games.

I agree with and am confused by your comment lol. I wouldn’t want to see “here’s a review on [game] and how it compares to 5e. That’s just apples vs. oranges and pointless. But unless I missed something no one is really doing that. The name of the channel is “notDnD”, which is an instant way...

D&D General D&D "influencers" need to actively acknowledge other games.

Why? I don’t see how that is problematic. Especially when the focus is rpg content other than Dungeons & Dragons. Or another way to say it: “instead of D&D” or “what to play when you’re moving on from D&D” is not the same as disparaging D&D.

D&D General D&D "influencers" need to actively acknowledge other games.

I don’t think they owe anybody anything. They create the content they want and if there is an audience for it great. I think what we need are more influencers that want to create nonD&D content. Ironically a channel that does that very thing got called insulting by someone on this site for the...

    What is your wishlist?

A new, simple, universal toolkit game to handle several genres. I’m not expecting someone else to create it so that’s what I’m working on.

    Apocalypse World gets an SRD

Sorry to raise a thread from the dead, but it’s been over a year, any updates on this?

What games, currently, have your interest?

The game that currently has most of my interest is the one I've been creating for roughly the past year. But, the journey of designing a game has led to a LOT of research. I'm revisiting D&D 4th, d20 Modern, discovered the Elephant and Macaw Banner, Goblin Slayer (despite how one might feel...

    Not DnD | Action-Heroes RPG

Even if WoTC was great (which they’re not) calling the show “NotDnD” is a great way for people discover the rest of the industry. NotXerox, NotStarbucks, NotWalmart, etc. It’s not insulting, it’s a back-handed compliment if anything.

Is it fun to plan a heist?

I suspect GMs think planning a heist is more fun than the players do. I ran a casino heist (Oceans 11 style) using BRP — once. I won’t say it was a total bust but some of my take-aways: Planning is planning, not playing. There was a lot of deliberation and then the actual play of it… the part...

    OSR Baptism of Fire RPG

@Jahydin You're certainly welcome, and thank you for the healthy discourse. :) As AI becomes more and more prominent, it's good to ask ourselves "where exactly do we draw the line?". I'm all in favor of developing tools that assist or enhance the artist, but to replace the artist? or worse...

    D&D 4E 4e-like game (title TBD)

I’d actually cast a vote for your own website, but I get all the reasons why not. Seems like itch.io would suit your needs better than GitHub, but that’s just my opinion.

    OSR Baptism of Fire RPG

@Jahydin I had to do some research to find out how AI was used for the Spider-Man movie. For the most part they still used human artists, with AI rendering some filler frames. I’d say this really pushes the line for me, but doesn’t cross it. Certainly not a hill I’d die on, but yea it cheapens...

    OSR Baptism of Fire RPG

I’m impressed with how good AI art is getting. But I just can’t flip through a book admiring it the same way as human created art (even if it’s technically lower quality). It’s artificial. Which means for me it’s pointless even being in the book. Which also means for me the price is worthless...

What is your favorite RPG book of all time?

BRP’s Big Gold Book. From that I can play almost anything. Even though the new book they recently released has better art, the Gold book is better overall imo
