    Cleric in need of help!

Gloves of Spellcraft +10 should cost around 10,000 gp. The usual formula is (bonus^2)*100 gp. Your DM may rule that it's an unusual spot and adjusted the price. Or the DM may feel that the price is too low for such a large bonus. For your armor, you can always cast Magic Vestment. It...

    Cleric in need of help!

twizty can you let us know what your domains are? It may help us a bit more with your conundrum.

    Cleric in need of help!

Did the DM tell you that something like this may happen back when he was getting ready for the campaign? Or is this a sandboxy campaign and the group just happened upon it? For overcoming the DC 20 spellcraft check, start putting ranks in at each level up. If you fail the check, does the...

Can a lich create a new phylactery?

The MM is a little ambiguous about remaking the phylactery. However, IIRC, Libris Mortis calls out that a lich may have one and only one phylactery. If the Lich is your BBEG I don't see why he coudln't have several phylacteries, a la Voldemort.

Does a D&D monk automatically imply martial artist?

Monk only implies kung-fu fighting if you're stuck thinking in terms of PHB classes. I frequently have NPCs refer to certain clergy as monks. Female mages are collectively called witches. Male mages are wizards. This can lead to some funny moments depending on the group. In the last...

Looking for tips for upcoming aquatic campaign

What if you made your underwater city like Rapture? It was supposed to be this utopia under the seas and the city fell. Now the PCs are exploring the ruins? It's definitely a reason to go the tech route instead of water breathing spells. Edit: Instead of Rapture you could always go the...

Why is the first adventure always the hardest to get 'right'?

Remember, the point of D&D is to have fun. If your group isn't having fun it's up to you as the DM to figure out why and fix it.

Looking for tips for upcoming aquatic campaign

Here's the big thing to keep in mind for an aquatic setting / encounter. About half the monsters assume you have things like Freedom of Movement and Water Breathing cast before you get into combat. The other half don't. So the CRs are all screwy. Seriously, go take a look at something like...

Why is the first adventure always the hardest to get 'right'?

You said the previous campaign fell flat after the party decided they didn't want to go sandboxy. Did they ever offer feedback on what they wanted instead? Some people find a blank piece of paper liberating. Others find it intimidating. I've never played Isle of Dread but if it's for level...

How much can you melt with fireball

In the Golden Age of Sail, many nations actually lined their ships with copper. This reduced plant growth on the hulls and protected the wood from worms. I recall reading that it was so effective that the French ships were able to outmaneuver the British navy and choose when and where to...

How much can you melt with fireball

Ah, I was trying to figure it out using: Q = lm * m Where Q is heat, lm is the latent heat of melting and m is mass. Estimating the mass is tricky part. Once I had Q I was going to use that to figure out the mass of the ice melted and thus it's volume. :) However, with all that being said...

How much can you melt with fireball

This all started as a thought exercise while I was feeding DD her lunch. And now I have visions of a fireball, a frozen lake, and the PCs dropping into the icy water below!

How much can you melt with fireball

The fireball description mentions that it can melt things such as copper. Of the materials listed copper has the highest latent heat of fusion and melting point. The question I'm trying to answer is, how much mass can the fireball effect? Could a fireball melt a 20ft hemisphere of copper...

Using Shadow Walk spell ON the plane of shadow?

The spell states that you're moving along the border between the Material and the Plane of Shadow. So I would let the spell work.

    Advice for homebrew kids rpg

My wife and I run a homebrew tri-stat (mind, body, soul) game for our kids. We've only done it a few times so I am not claiming it's perfect or anything. We run everything with d6's and pretty much everything is opposed die rolls. The number of d6's you roll is related to the stats. The...

    Children say the darndest things

I think this would be the appropriate area for this post. If not, I apologize. My children have shown interest in tabletop RPGs. Or as they call it "That game with all the dice". So my wife and I decided to try running games for them. The group consists of Dear Wife (DW), Dear Daughter (DD)...

    Keeping a Group Together

I'd like to pose the following scenario. Consider the following as a stream of consciousness from the DM. "Hmmm ... I designed this encounter to be tough but, geeze, I really over estimated what the PCs are capable of. If only Bob was here tonight to play instead of being out sick. If I...

    Looking for Egyptian Themed Magic

I'm sure there's a card game joke in here somewhere. Have you looked at Sandstorm? I know it's sort of a generic desert themed book but maybe there's something there you could use.
