D&D General DMs: Do you review notes right before playing?

I voted sometimes. Because sometimes I'm still writing my notes right before the session starts!

D&D 3E/3.5 Good build and Items for Human Half Celestial Fighter Lv 5 (ECL 9)

I can't help you much with psychic powers. I have never played a psychic warrior and know almost nothing about them. Expansion is going to be the one power you're probably going to want right away. Making yourself large means higher strength and reach. For a halberd, I like the Spinning...

Weird. There are apparently two alphabetical lists.

Be sure to grab combat reflexes. You can substitute your attack of opportunity for a trip attack. This is one of the reasons that most trip fighters try to have some form of reach; either through their weapon, magic, race or some feat. The more ground you can control, the better. I don't know...

    D&D 3E/3.5 Object Saves?

I believe you ruled correctly. If you were feeling so generous, perhaps grant a bonus to the saving throw based on how much protection the spell granted? Maybe +1 for every 10 points of resistance or protection?

"Fog of War" on physical battlemats

I use something similar to this when I play in person. What I do is add small dots onto the grid to help me for when I draw in the rest of the map. I, fortunately, have not run into the scenario where a player looks at the map and (in)correctly guesses that there must be something there because...

D&D General What Was Your First Time Playing and/or Running D&D Like?

First time playing was in sophomore year of college. We played 3.5 And it's how I met my wife. :) I played a dwarf paladin with absolutely horrible stats. Our party was charged with protecting an artifact that could banish Asmodeus. We promptly lost it when we tried to hide from an orc patrol...

D&D General "I have Experienced What I'd Call 'DM Burnout'" (a poll)

I am starting to feel it right now. It's not that I dislike running a game. In fact, I'm beginning to believe that I prefer running a game over being a player. It's mostly just I have so many other things going on in my life that finding time to prepare is hard to come by. When I do find time...

D&D 3E/3.5 Suggestions for Wizard party buff spells (level 6 or less)

My thought there was that Anger of the Noonday Sun says that it affects any undead that is adverse to sunlight differently. I'm pretty sure the spell was written with vampires in mind. So wraiths are in a nebulous gray area. Will you let us know what your GM says?

To Improve AC: Dusty Rose Ioun Stone - 5K - Gives a +1 Insight Bonus to AC. Insight counts towards your flat footed and touch armor class, too. +1 Buckler - 1,165 GP - Plus +2 Shield Bonus to AC. Maybe add Arrow Deflection if you get a chance. Alternatively, for just over 9,000 GP you could get...

D&D 3E/3.5 Suggestions for Wizard party buff spells (level 6 or less)

Maybe point out Anger of the Noonday Sun to your druid? I don't know if it would destroy the dread wraith outright. Wraiths are powerless in sunlight though.

D&D 3E/3.5 Suggestions for Wizard party buff spells (level 6 or less)

I've DM'd and played in Shackled City (loved it!). Was this the fight with ? One thing to consider is that a lot of the enemy mages you are going to be fighting going forward are going to have a lot of buff spells. Dispelling them or using Reciprocal Gyre (Wizard 5) to damage them will be very...

D&D 3E/3.5 Good build and Items for Human Half Celestial Fighter Lv 5 (ECL 9)

My thought regarding Improved Buckler Defense is that it's an easy way to boost your armor class (AC). Normally, when you use your arm that has a buckler to wield a weapon, the buckler's shield bonus to your AC goes away. If you're going to be a front line fighter, then it's an easy way to boost...

D&D 3E/3.5 Good build and Items for Human Half Celestial Fighter Lv 5 (ECL 9)

Go with your heart with regards to Two Weapon Fighting or the Greatsword. :) If you go with Greatsword, you cannot use weapon finesse when wielding that so don't spend a feat on that. Improved Critical requires BAB +8 so you cannot get that just yet. You can also get a similar effect with an...

Weapons: The biggest problem you'll run into with trying to dual wield scimitars is that a scimitar is a one handed weapon, not a light weapon. When you a use two weapon fighting, you take penalties to your attack roll depending on your feat selection and the weapons you are using. The penalties...

D&D 3E/3.5 Good build and Items for Human Half Celestial Fighter Lv 5 (ECL 9)

@EdenNotRaven If you can use PHB and one other book, this will limit our options. But I'll do my best to help. Something like this may be what I'd do: Feats /Skills: 1st - Improved Initiative (Required for Occult Slayer) Human - Weapon Focus (Any) (Required for Occult Slayer) Fighter 1 - Two...

D&D 3E/3.5 Good build and Items for Human Half Celestial Fighter Lv 5 (ECL 9)

Combat Style: Go with what you picture your character using. Otherwise you can always go Power Attack and wield a greatsword. It's been done a million times before but there are reasons why. Do you plan on investing more into Two Weapon Fighting? If you're going to have a battleaxe in your off...
