D&D 5e is really extremely varied and an incredibly broad church. It’s not really a monoculture. There are tens of millions of people playing 5e in slightly different ways. It’s awesome.
I’m sorry to say that the reason those products haven’t got the community is that they just aren’t popular...
I understand it’s not charity. Never said otherwise. It’s symbiotic or at least it used to be. The content creators assist the larger organisation by creating hype but gain access and information they wouldn’t otherwise have that generated them followers, ad revenue and a platform to launch...
So what you’re describing is two different types of risk. Sure a 3pp trying a niche product or something new is a risk for them, they have limited resources and need to put it into the right area.
However you’re misunderstanding risk if you think WotC isn’t taking any. Developing an integrated...
Financial backing encourages creativity. When people have to work on their creative effort in their spare time and still work a 40 hour week to pay the bills they can’t be as creative as they otherwise could. Financial backing allows investment. You can buy the equipment you want, recruit the...
Golden Vault, Planescape, Vecna, 2024 books, Phandelver.
Then you prefer people less likely to try new things, take risk, make investment in alternatives or you know do anything that isn’t tried and tested already.
Well it sufficed for previous reviews into antiquity. What was it about the 2024 edition that meant folks had to read 85% of it before buying it?
Or do you mean it’s unlikely to generate sufficient views to make a few thousand $$ for the content creators?
I don’t insist on supporting them. I support them when they’re being unfairly attacked and criticise them when they do things poorly. I play 5e about 33% of my gaming time and WFRP 4e is a much better system. I moved to Pathfinder for 10 years after the 4e debacle. I think for a couple of years...
I guess I would consider there to be a huge difference between flicking through a book with the text unreadable, giving a sense of the layout and topics. As opposed to a picture perfect readable page word for word. Huge difference.
I suspect they were totally blindsided by youtubers sharing their entire product and calling it a review. Page by page. Has that ever happened before? I’m pretty gobsmacked by the whole thing. Can you ever imagine them doing a page by page release of a Level Up product?
I thought that was implied. As I said if someone wants to challenge the notion that a polite email is not objectionable then they are free to do so. Everyone is entitled to an opinion based on the facts as presented.
To be honest your biases against 5e and WotC are frequent and well documented.
It’s worth noting that in the original Sly Flourish video on the issue. He makes it clear that it wasn’t a copyright strike, it was just a nice request to ask politely if he could blur some sections out. He want threatened or attacked. If that kind of relationship amounts to an offensive act...
“I’m annoyed because of the OGL from 2 years ago and so anything they do since will be given the worst possible interpretation.”
Poor understanding of how corporations work, promotional self interest, the YouTube tendency toward negativity, and an edition update are not a good combination...
Someone should patent WotC-Fan-Hate as a source for clean energy. It seems to be entirely self-sustaining. Endlessly renewing itself without any need for stimulus.
I mean it’s been a couple of years now since they did anything even slightly objectionable but the hate threads haven’t slowed a...
Yeah Up In Arms and Winds of Magic are the two biggies. For improved Magic system and Group Advantage. More granular weapons, far more spells, etc.
I get your point about wanting a system that is all under one roof but I also want a system that feels supported and lives. The nice thing about...
