Do you find it hard to find games?

According to ENworld, there are 430 gamers within 5 miles of downtown TO. You must be a very busy GM to run for 430 people. ;) Or no-one is gaming. Do people really not want to DM/GM ... for money? I am astounded. and with that, PM me, maybe we can work something out.

Do you find it hard to find games?

Not at all. I live in a large city. Thousands of gamers. I have dropped and declined games. ATM, I'm just enjoying running my steady group, which always includes new gamers.

    Cosmopolitan Fantasy Worlds

Most people didn't travel, but people who did, travelled a lot. Pilgrims, crusaders, mercenaries, Marco Polo, sailors, Vikings, Kings with their courts that were always on the move, Basque and Breton fishermen, friars, missionaries, Muslim tourists like Ibn Battuta, merchants working the...

Are we, as a wider community, nasty?

Yeah, we're not nasty. We are rude and badly behaved -- towards each other -- in various silos scattered across the internet. A lot of this, is because, internet. Some of the worst discussions that are conducted online would be much more civil if they were held face-to-face.

    Favorite D&D Retroclone?

Ha. I think everyone who runs BFRPG is active on the internet and hobbysites like this one. Might be only a few hundred voices ... as a free game it's sold 700+ copies and has had thousands of downloads. There's circulation figures somewhere at the basicfantasy site.

What can ruin a Game more; Poor GMing or a Bad Player

Yes, however a game can be run independently from any social baggage players may bring to the table. It's much easier to fix a game than it is to repair a poor relationship.

What can ruin a Game more; Poor GMing or a Bad Player

I think it's rather easy to get rid of a disruptive player. Similarly, a bad DM is also replaceable. Bad gaming, on the whole, is not worth the time.

When you get bored of goblins and kobolds...

Rethink gnolls as coyote-like. And as coyotes, they'll go anywhere. Totally adaptable to almost any environment.

What skills should a medieval college student who's working part time have?

It's likely an urban setting, so he could also be a thief. He may have even been rushed for the secret "skull and bones" student society, which is a secret part of the local (and secret) assassins guild (yes, three secrets in order). Hence he may have all sorts of "odd" jobs. Nothing lethal...

What skills should a medieval college student who's working part time have?

Pretty much. Let's wind back. Since the University is unlikely to be studying the Trivium and Quadrivium as we know it in a world where is magic is real, and before we get down to the immediate economic prospects of our penurious student, we should ask, what does the University teach? And who...

    What are your core races?

I'm Old School, so my default is the classics. But I am totally open to Other as a Core as well. We'll sit down and talk about it. We can make something up that should work. My current game is mostly Human. This may sound bland but there's several different, strongly defined cultures. It's...

    What's your favorite free RPG?

Lots of great stuff available. I have to plug Basic Fantasy RPG. I started a one off that become a recurring thing, eventually became biweekly, and is now 3 year old campaign. It's old school D&D with some 3.0 isms, free to dl, modular via supplements, and rather easy to mod. If one likes this...

    Favorite/Least Favorite Class

OSR. I like a caster with combat flexibility so Cleric or MU/Thief or MU/Fighter. Assassin is my least favorite. Clumsy mechanics, evil focus, preferred by peeps who always go PvP, which isn't my thing at all.

Gnomes! (HUH) What are they good for? Absolutely nothing!

I love gnomes. IMG, their hilly "kingdom" sits bestride a new trade route, which they are happily exploiting. They love gems, making magic, trading, inventions and mischief. They are a race full of eccentrics, are usually "Good" (though watch out for the Redcaps and their giant weasel pets) and...

What are your D&D plans for 2014?

My BFRPG game is coming up to its 3rd birthday. I will be continuing. If a friend buys 5.0, and wants to run it, I'll try it.

Poking things to see if they work

Pretty much how I play. I don't require (and nor do I want!) players to physically attack me in order to show off their character's combat skills. With social situations, it's a blend of player and character ability. I'll make reasonable adjustments both ways. And sometimes a high capability...

Do you like D&D or do you like RPGs?

I like some kinds of D&D and don't really play other RPGs any more. I liked some of them.

{Hypothetical Thought Exercise} A cosmic being annihilates your favorite version of D&D...

If I could not play anything at all resembling an OSR game anymore, I'd just go back to Rolemaster 2nd ed and then strip it down.

OSR What Has Caused the OSR Revival?

Free, fun and easy-to-teach. Easy-to-mod. Supports many styles of play. Very accessible. Lots of community and legacy support.
