I've found the basis for 4e-style fantasy words

You *should* plunder any culture that you feel is worth plundering in order to build immersion. For example, if you run a game set in a mythic setting populated by neo-romans, alt balts, and vampiric pseudo-ptolemaics, insisting on the anglo-saxon lexicon for naming purposes isn't going to help...

What is the Greatest Dungeon Crawl Ever Published?

Dark Tower for me. We ran an epic campaign in that one.

Does "rules light" lead to more arguments?

Keep in mind that when OD&D was published, it was one of the heaviest rules sets ever published. It wasn't considered a light game.

What is your favorite evil cult?

Set is always good. The jackal head god, he-who-shall-not-be-named, and also heavily associated with snakes for that classic Shemite/Hyborian feel.

Does "rules light" lead to more arguments?

It's largely dependent on the personalities of the people involved.

Ryan Dancey: This is why there was no M:tG setting for D&D

I don't think Magic needed D&D. I can appreciate that D&D didn't want to co-operate with the WOTC's Magic Department out of fear of Magic the RPG, but I think that's navigable. So: "Magic: The RPG, powered by Dungeons and Dragons." But: Yeah, this.

Racism in RPGs, especially related to fantastic races

Next time I play, I'll be sure to measure everyone's skulls, so we can determine what race they are. I'm sure that will lead to better poll results.

Racism in RPGs, especially related to fantastic races

As some people only appear to be Caucasian, I'm confused by the poll options.

D&D 5E ALL ABOARD!!! Should rules for climbing big opponents be a part of the Core rules of D&D Next?

There's more than one grapple rule published. Anyhow, you should use common sense according to the context ~ halflings don't pin a dragon, instead they climb it. etc. The way I see it, grapple is an easy way to determine if the character grabs on tightly. Modify results appropriately.

D&D 5E ALL ABOARD!!! Should rules for climbing big opponents be a part of the Core rules of D&D Next?

I'd use grapple rules with appropriate modifications. Anyhow, it sounds fun, and I'd love to see a character try it. The Rule of Cool is that is should be possible.

    Favorite D&D Retroclone?

BFRPG has the modularity I like. We've added house rules and bolted on AD&D stuff on "as needed" basis.

When and how did you learn to play D&D?

I had two older brothers. We were playing wargames from AH and SPI already, and playing games with our toy soldiers with Little Wars, Featherstone rules, WRG. Got to play a T&T knock off/homebrew, and got hooked. We got Holmes shortly after that. I was all of 10 years old.

Portraying fantasy societies realistically instead of on the evil/good axis

Whatever realism is, this isn't it. But certainly you can have it anyway you want. No one is stopping you. What you could do is toss alignment, so the sometimes very cartoony good/evil axis doesn't play a factor in your world. Then I would advise you to get to work creating cultures, societies...

The Megadungeon and other Campaign Structures

I get bored running large dungeons and prefer seeding smaller ones that can be completed in 1-2 sessions. I can make those up, or swipe them from published modules. Basically, I have an area map that's about the size of the French Riviera. There's a homebase/port town, some (allied)pirate towns...

    Stereotypical campaign help

10 foot pit trap in the tunnel. triggered by anything heaver than a kobold. The kobolds will flee (feigned or real), the players give chase, and simply because they are in a rush they won't check for it. a perennial classic. treasure includes some sort of charged magic item that has random...

The Sacred Cow Slaughterhouse: Ideas you think D&D's better without

All you have to do is run a good game and people will show. How many players do you need? What other gains are there? IMG I have no alignment, at will casting, and no hobbits. To begin with. People come. Just for example. I am not suggesting other people play just like me.

5 Lessons for DMs from the LOST Series Bible

Now I also agree with that Janx. There is a time sensitivity involved: a game may end earlier than expected and it can be very frustrating to have mysteries never even getting close to being resolved, all because Henry is now working the nightshift, Susan is having a baby and Rick is moving out...
