Lore Bard based on Intelligence instead of Charisma: would that create an imbalance?

You'd be a smart arse, and you know what folks say about them! :)

D&D 5E How Dark is Your D&D Preference?

Depends - currently we have 3-4 'worlds', each designed around a few core themes - 'revenge, fire and faith', 'madness, cold and honour', 'prejudice, flying and education' and 'fear, nature and family'. Happy endings are subjective and the meaning of existence is what folks make of it. Things...

ZEITGEIST Continues; Plus A Royal Wedding (5E)

I hear it also spits acidic vomit ;)

Wow. Just began reading Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes -- WOTC is really putting out some awesome books.

I find https://www.behindthename.com/ is easy to use and produces names quickly.

DMs - How do you treat Healing Word?

Yeah, there's only so many pieces a character can lose before the adventuring party ends up as a pirate cosplay group.

    Fey in 5e DnD

I enjoy exploring the alien aspect of fey. Else they're in danger of simply becoming funny-shaped humans. Likewise, the fickleness of time in their realm, running fast, slow, backwards and if at all. Also the menace that comes with the alien. Goblins as, 'funny/naughty/nasty ugly midgets'...

D&D 5E MTOF: Elves are gender-swapping reincarnates and I am on board with it

Eh. I see WoTC's offerings as some rules that have undergone more testing than I can be bothered to undertake. Likewise, their fluff is simply that - their fluff. Granted, if folks are playing AL and don't enjoy the fluff, I can appreciate the problem. However, for everyone else, our table...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana May 2018: Centaurs and Minotaurs

Heck breathing - that's a human mouth. It's sucking in air to oxygenate a mostly-horse circulatory system! Which makes you wonder - to strangle a a centaur do you go for the neck or.. lasso the abdomen? If the lungs are in the horse part then the air is passing down the human neck, past the...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana May 2018: Centaurs and Minotaurs

 And they eat via their human mouth.. which then travels aaaaall the way down the muscle tube, which in turn is shaped like a human torso, complete with ribcage for protecting... Wait. There voices must be pretty ...interesting? Horse lungs pushing air over a human-ish (?) larynx...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana May 2018: Centaurs and Minotaurs

What always bugs me is: Centaurs: Do they have two sets up lungs? Hearts? How does.. the human and the horse... internal gubbinz... work? And yes, 'its magic' is a sure-fire way to get tossed out the airlock.

Darkvision: Don't forget the Disadvantage & limitations!

While aware of how Darkvision performs during play, we upped the ante by giving everyone without Darkvision the ability, after 10 minutes, to discern space and colour in anything other than total darkness and after 3 hours the ability to navigate their surroundings with no penalties, while...

    Language is like an Onion

On the flip side, I'll be introducing the table to a dark ages themed setting, where clusters of humanity are so insular* that they cannot understand the speech of other clusters but a few miles away! *..due to, in part, the extensive forest filled with beasties, along with abundance of...

How Are Your Elves/ Dwarves/ Orcs Different?

All our elves and dwarves are human. Mechanically they're elves and dwarves, cosmetically they're 'lithe humans' and 'short chunky humans'. Same applies to goblins (desert/wasteland dwellers), half-elves, halflings and half-orcs. One planet has orcs, but again only mechanically. Cosmetically...

How far ahead do you need to be to stealth without penalty?

Are we talking about the distance for the stealther to remain undetected or the party? If its just the stealther then as little as a step or two. If its the entire party then it depends on the passive perception of the creatures/whatever. I'd wing it as 100ft or so for convenience, with caves...
