Listening to old-timers describe RP in the 70s and 80s

I can't tell if you're agreeing with me or disagreeing. What you're saying is part of the point I was trying to make.

Listening to old-timers describe RP in the 70s and 80s

I’ll check it out. I’m getting a lot of reading homework from enworld 🧠😂

Listening to old-timers describe RP in the 70s and 80s

It really grinds my gears when people who played [A]D&D in the early days describe their style as if it were the way it was played. I've been listening to people say that the game was, you made a couple characters, started in front of a dungeon and went in. The dungeon was always generated...

D&D General Dark Sun fans: What are the essential elements of Dark Sun to you?

Everything you listed in this poll and more is absolutely Essential to Dark Sun. Although finding another artist could still work. Also: resource scarcity, threat of death from starvation/dehydration Political treachery Commanding armies . And more I'm not thinking of... 😉

Bob the World Builder Interviews Kyle Brink

Yes it’s a completely culturally acceptable common occurrence, this worthless sham we all pretend is life.

I have no idea if this is a hot take or not, but...

This guy explained it better than I did.

I have no idea if this is a hot take or not, but...

I don't necessarily know how to "explain" it in an easily digestible way. In essentially the same way that I wouldn't go into CERN to discuss the emotional implications of their experiments, I can't really provide objective measurements that describe in an exact and formulaic way that you can...

I have no idea if this is a hot take or not, but...

This was one of my favorite images of yesteryear too. Still just an illustration for informational purposes though. Side note: there's a cool STL mini of this floating (hah) around the internet.

These references went over my head sadly. 😳

I have no idea if this is a hot take or not, but...

Yeah I mean... This isn't just an illustration. It's a story. And that was true of so many of the paintings of those days, and so few (not paintings) that came along thereafter. Just something really inspired and frankly divine about imagery of this caliber.

What's the WORST Star Wars movie?

Reading the synopsis for The Clone Wars actually makes it sound like a really good film to me. If only I had never watched it. I saw it in theaters for free and still regretted it.

Bob the World Builder Interviews Kyle Brink

I think he's sincere too but I think he's being used. And we still need the org chart. We still haven't identified who the architects of this decision were. Actually, the investors need to know this more than the fandom does.

    New Level-less RPG

I just read a very intriguing idea posted by a forum user in an OSR dealie, the idea of powering [or leveling] up during combat. I think that has some potential applications here as well.

It is time to forgive WOTC and get back onboard.

I want to make it really really clear and will probably reiterate a few times: Yes I am boycotting D&D and yes I am passionate about it. Please do NOT confuse that with judging anybody else's decision. Shattered World is a judgement-free zone, you can safely continue to play, love, and DM for 5e...

It is time to forgive WOTC and get back onboard.

I had thought WoTC profits from that anything purchased from OBS. It appears I will need to educate myself on what I can purchase there without benefitting WoTC.

When Elmore/Easley/Brom/et. al. left TSR, the soul left with them.

I assumed it was all of OBS...?

    Survival Mode: Awesomeness or Bookkeeping?

I used an icon in Roll20, and tracked the party all together: It was the easiest way and still satisfying in the survival sense. It also was almost always unnecessary. Of course, I haven't done a Dark Sun game in decades...

    Survival Mode: Awesomeness or Bookkeeping?

Resource management isn't everbody's cup of tea... using software and being generally organized and prepared will help, which players should ideally be doing anyway. I'm a fan of just going for it personally...
