    Why do you GM?

It's my creative outlet. I have played two 4-hour sessions in 2010... and they were the first time I played since 1985. The entire time I am playing with the ideas the DM is presenting and thinking about how I would use them in one of my own games. I definitely do not think I am the best DM...

    The most epicest artifact?

Codex of the Infinite Planes. When you can reshape reality, re-order the planes and basically do whatever you want, clearly you're in possession of the most powerful of items.

Eberron + Dark Sun = Stargate. Discuss.

Al-Qadim is Arabian rather than Egyptian, isn't it?

GenCon Attendance Sets Record with 41,000 attendees!

It's great to see RPG gaming booming.

    EN World Citizenship Test

No, he had a brazilian. I believe there is a difference.

Upscaling Reavers of Harkenwold and Campaign...

Why not experiment with adding extra monsters in one encounter and up-levelling monsters in another and see which encounter the players enjoy more? (Generally speaking, my players love fighting their way through a big group. We all find it more cinematic.)

    New Undermountain book..your thoughts?

I like it. It's a good way to kick off a 4E Waterdeep campaign. You've got the dungeon - obviously - but enough information on NPCs above-ground to run a decent city-based mini-campaign as well. It's also quite portable.

D&D 4E The Usage of the Non-Sequitur "4e is a Tactical Skirmish Game"

How does "4E is a tactical skirmish game" meet the definition of a non-sequitur? Do you really mean non-sequitur or something else?

D&D 4E Value of DDI for existing 4e tools and resources?

@OP: Yes, it is worth the USD70 or so a year for the time it will save you in a month. I'm amazed to report that, yes, it finally uses the correct maths. Of course, updating the old beasties is not an automatic process. You have to fart around quite a bit first.

Dragon 411 and Dungeon 202 ToC: Dark Sun!

I'm really pleased with this month's theme... and, as an added bonus, another adventure by Chris Perkins!

WotC announces 'Rise of the Underdark' campaign

Rich Baker was good at adventures. Wait there, he's been sacked.

The other side of the screen

I prefer to DM as close to 100% of the time as possible... but I like the occasional session of LFR to try out a PC for a few hours. Not too often, but enough to keep my DMing fresh.

    D&D 4E Whose staying with 4e?

I'm definitely staying with 4E. It's my favourite edition so far, it does everything that my players and I want it to, and it's the most fun I have had DMing - both at the table and during my prep time - for about 30 years. I do not believe that the combination of what I have read about 5E so...

    D&D 4E Whose staying with 4e?

That's very much how I feel. If I want to go backwards, as it were, I will go with Pathfinder simply because I love their adventure paths. I don't think WotC is ever going to master adventure design again (especially without Rich Baker on staff).

Blizzard dragons, any tips on running them?

... and give them immunity or resistance to cold as that was missed by the designers....

Having Trouble with D&D Insider (tech issues)

I have had similar issues for months and this is what I have found will work: 1. Always sign in using your email address rather than your User ID. 2. Only sign-in on the wizards.com/dnd page. I have never posted/complained about it simply because it is WotC and they don't fix problems related...

Forgotten Realms Characters From The Real World

Charles Oliver O'Kane was the mayor of Raven's Bluff in 2E and was explicitly called out as coming from Earth. I am sure a search of the City of Raven's Bluff sourcebook will turn up more examples. A lot of other real world stuff crossed over into Raven's Bluff as a result of the less serious...

    Heroes of the Elemental Chaos

It's a shame because I am really looking forward to this book and I think it will revitalise my current game. (And I am much more excited about my current game than I am about the next edition of D&D....)

Pre-Release Review of Heroes of the Elemental Chaos by Wizards of the Coast

Orcs were chaotic evil in Holmes Basic which predates the AD&D1E Monster Manual.

Pre-Release Review of Heroes of the Elemental Chaos by Wizards of the Coast

Great review but I would offer one nitpick. Orcs were originally chaotic evil. They only became LE with the AD&D Monster Manual but they were chaotic evil before that. Emphasising the CHAOTIC side of their alignment is actually a nod to us old timers.... ;)
