    "It's a joke name, sir."

I will of course disregard PARANOIA names, because that's kinda the point in the game, iznit? The worst I had in that case was a ranger with a randomly generated name, "Denero." Just add a space and change the second "e" to an "i"... :(

    OSRIC -- update

Something else which has come to mind: would it be possible, under the OSRIC licencing/OGL/whateveritis, to put together a new guide for game masters? (Not that I'm attempting to dodge around a certain well-known name or anything here...)

    Favorite Thanksgiving gaming moment

I ran a Serenity game the day after Thanksgiving (Vietnam-themed, during the Unification War, with the players as Alliance spec-ops). Highlights of the game include: -While dodging enemy antiaircraft fire, the pilot brings the PCs' dropship down to ground level and essentially fries a Browncoat...

Misprounced Monsters; Or... What did you call that monster, again?

K'Bold? Sounds Klingon to me. Clearly not a name befitting those lowly scurrying creatures! KO-bold it is, and clearly so. (Also, you seem to have taken my surname. You fiend!)

    Pal-la-din. Listen to the song!

Misprounced Monsters; Or... What did you call that monster, again?

It could be worse...I had a game where I read 2-12 damage as 2d12 damage. Dead barbarian dyslexia.

    Buying D&D/RPG stuff on eBay

It's also a good idea to exclude the standard D&D minis "sets", like War of the Dragon Queen: "-WotDQ", for example

Misprounced Monsters; Or... What did you call that monster, again?

I seem to have a minor dyslexic problem when parsing certain words (which generally happen to be fantasy names...) Until this thread, I was thinking Tharizdun should be pronounced "Thar-zi-dun". Same thing with "Saghuagin" - Sag-ha-oo-in. And most embarassingly: until two years ago, I thought...

gaming/book stores in the Herndon, VA/Washington DC area?

Hey, thank'ee for the College Park tip; I didn't realize the comics store had gaming stuff also. I will provide one note about The Compleat Strategist - when I went there, four years ago, they *did* have a nice selection of OOP stuff (as well as I can recall); I snagged the Tome of Magic for...

    A powergamer in a non-powergame.

Repeat after me: "No Gaming is better than Bad Gaming. No Gaming is better than Bad Gaming..."

    A powergamer in a non-powergame.

Hmm. I guess I've had the opposite experience: most of the time, I've seen house rules that make sense and expedite play. And I've definitely seen lousy stuff put out by the parent company (but I'm speaking from AD&D experience). Eh, to each their own - and apologies for threadjacking.

AC&C (Insert String of Curses Here)

I just want you guys to know that it was this thread which sold me on C&C completely. I had been interested in it before, but hadn't quite grasped how easy it is to convert. *thanks everyone, runs to FLGS, and curses when C&C is not in evidence*

Just got the CD with issues 1-250; What is best, IYNSHO?

I think there were licensing issues with the CDs (something about KoDT, maybe...?), which is why we never saw more CDs. :(

    What is your party composition?

    AD&D 2e. Human bard 3 Dwarven fighter/thief 3/3 Half-elf cleric/mage 3/3 Gnome mage/thief 3/4 I don't know why they *all* went multiclass. :( Ideal six-player composition: 2 fighters (or subclasses) rogue mage clerics (2) Four-player, drop the extra fighter 'n cleric.

    Best. Quote. Ever.

My hand to God, I played in a game where one of the characters was a floating sentient pineapple. A mage. From the Jungles of Chult. Accursed plant stole my booze. :\

    Ending a Campaign Gracefully?

My goodness, yes! Wild Bunch endings are the ways PCs should die. Blaze of glory! The bards still sing of the day the Mad Three dove into the caverns of Ihrryk, blades in hand, determined to slay as many undead as possible before they succumbed! Yarrrgh! Er, ahem. I mean, you've got these PCs...
