Converting Creatures from Other Campaign Settings

Psst. Change "arcane" to "mercane" in the flavor-text, since that what our favorite mercantile blue Lurch-impersonators are called in 3e. Also, the combat text says that tri-beams are fired as a standard action, whereas the Attack line has only the one on a standard, and all three as a full...

    Converting Dark*Matter Creatures

I much prefer the magical beast with cold resistance to an outsider.

    Special Conversion Thread: Unicorns

I think I'd rather they got dismissal as an SLA, but I'll go with the consensus.

D&D 3E/3.5 Converting monsters from Mayfair Games Role Aids product line

Well, the greater's going to have a much higher Con, presumably. Let's shoot for a CR of 9 on it, so that way an encounter with swarm and greater is a solid EL 10.

    Converting Monsters from Dungeon Magazine

I'm thinking Large due to The Golden Voyage of Sinbad. In our exceptions, do we want to say that fire causes the wooden lady to emit smoke like a smokestick? The radius-per-damage is clunky, especially in the modern, 5ft-centric D&Dscape.

    Converting Greyhawk monsters

Monsters of Faerun has a diamond golem that we could look to for comparison. If I recall correctly, it's also got light-based powers.

    Converting Forgotten Realms monsters

    Dire Charge and Reckless Offense.

Converting "generic setting" Second Edition monsters

Oof. This is going to be complicated. My suggestion? Two sets of stats. Tomb warden, and tomb warden heart. Each warden is considered to be a seperate entity, but all in a location are tied to a heart, which gives them rejuvenation so long as it remains intact and can do the tentacled thing...

Send In The Clowns… (or, Converting the Oddballs)

OK, we start with an elephant and boost its natural AC. Raise Con a little, drop Dex a bit, perhaps. Switch stomps for claws, add burrow speed. Perhaps a bit of DR/- for the thick armor. This is going to be a magical beast, after all, we can get more elaborate on the SQs (although I think DR/-...

    Converting Oriental Adventures creatures

How about Lightning Reflexes, Persuasive or Negotiator and Weapon Finesse as feats?

    Converting Epic Level Creatures

No, I like the Self-Concealment and Improved Feint a lot.

    Converting monsters from Dragon magazine

1d6 Con initial and secondary is as high as I'm willing to go on the poison damage.

    Converting Oriental Adventures creatures

I like that dimensional anchor suggestion. The half damage from damaging spells was why I suggested evasion in the first place. I think they should stick to polymorph--there are a number of outsiders with it, like succubi and efreet.

    Converting Epic Level Creatures

Sounds good! I would have liked to squeeze Epic Dodge in there somewhere, but it's got brutal prereqs. Maybe as a bonus feat?

    Converting monsters from Dragon magazine

I'd rather not have the solidifying webs, but I do like the liquification foiling raise dead. Not ressurection, though. If disintegrated ashes count for ressurection, so should a bucket full of PC. I do agree with Cleon's feat suggestions.

    Special Conversion Thread: Moldvay's Undead

Crossbows have moving, complicated parts. Bows you pull back and fire. Javelins you just throw. So I'd prefer bows or javelins to crossbows.

Converting "Real World" Animals and Vermin

Should we give them sprint, and/or an ability to make turns when charging?

    Converting Monsters from Dungeon Magazine

CR 4 seems reasonable, ditto advancement.

    Converting Planescape monsters

Ability Focus (whine), Weapon Focus (bite), Combat Expertise, Persuasive?

    Special Conversion Thread: Unicorns

It is explicitly not extraplanar, so no evil and extraplanar subtypes. They need light blindness. I do not like the suggestion of them always radiating a magic circle vs. good, nor the seperation of their darkness aura and darkness SLA.
