    D&D 5E Archetype-Multiclass option initial concept

Why not go all the way and get rid of classes altogether in favor of a system that allows you to e.g. point buy whatever features you can afford (and qualify for, if there are any prerequisites) from the entire pool of abilities?

    D&D 5E Version 5.25 -- what do you change?

Liking a lot of the ideas here so far, especially regarding saving throws and giving weapons and armor more diverse traits that allow a wider variety to be useful depending on the circumstances. As for ASI vs feats, I think the problem is compounded by certain things: Lucky rolled stats allow...

D&D General Which ability score would you like to increase to 18 in real life?

Absolutely. I'll take being a curmudgeonly old guy that falls for all the robocall scams over being a super smart and charismatic guy that keels over before 40.

    D&D 5E Guidance...

The check covers the entire duration of the task, but the roll is made at the end to resolve the action. Lucky does not specify a duration, and it can be used according to its description. For Guidance, at my table we require it to be active for the entire duration of the task. We don't...

    D&D 5E Guidance...

Exactly this. That, and it's a spell. Casting a spell in a social interaction is typically both noticeable and bound to induce extremely negative, perhaps even violent, reactions.

D&D 5E What are your biggest immersion breakers, rules wise?

I like to handle ability checks for things like smashing doors down a little differently - it's not "can you do it?" because by allowing a roll, I've essentially already established that the character can succeed, but rather "how quickly/well can you do it?" So for smashing a door down, we'll...

D&D 5E PHB Errata Nerf Unarmed Strikes!? WHY??? :(

Not sure if this is entirely on topic, but one idea I find intriguing but haven't yet had the chance to try is to allow characters to fluff their weapon attacks however they like. I see no reason to punish someone mechanically for saying "I kick at his knees and then attempt to drive my sword...

D&D 5E Which Class is "The Best" - Your chance to VOTE!

Some may say consider my choices akin to vanilla ice cream - while it may be delicious, it is probably one of the least interesting flavors to choose. But it's still delicious. :P

D&D 5E Which Class is "The Best" - Your chance to VOTE!

Boring, but: Fighter, Rogue, Wizard, in no particular order. I like a lot of the other classes as well, but all three of these have really solid implementations in 5e that allow for quite a variety of character concepts.

D&D 5E Simple Character Sheet if you want one

I'll second @Theo R Cwithin and say get rid of the Death Saves / Fails if space is an issue. A couple chicken scratches pretty much anywhere or a pair of dice easily covers the few minutes you'll need to resolve if you're dead or not. HD are useful to track if a session ends mid-adventure, as...

D&D 5E Simple Character Sheet if you want one

Fighters are proficient (+2) and javelins are thrown (i.e. use Strength, NOT Dexterity) for a total of +5. ;) A dedicated place for Temp HP would be nice, but it's easy enough to write in as +X next to the current HP, e.g. 12 + 5.

D&D 5E Simple Character Sheet if you want one

I don't see a place for Size - it could probably fit on the same row as Ht/Wt/Age (if entered as e.g. S, M, or L). The other thing missing that I feel is important in 5e is the character's Personality Traits, Bonds, Flaws and Ideals. Adding that would really stretch the limits of the single...

D&D 5E Simple Character Sheet if you want one

I hadn't opened the PDF, but I see what you mean now. I prefer to fill my sheets by hand, so having them all as full lines allows me to decide on a case-by-case basis if I need a notes line or not. Most of the time I don't. If you drop the weight column, I'd give more room to the Damage column...

D&D 5E Simple Character Sheet if you want one

That's fair, though in that case having a little more space (at least two lines) could be beneficial. In fact, I think a dedicated section for "Defenses" right above "Weapons" would be nice, or at least make the AC line more prominent by moving it to the first or last line. For a dedicated...

D&D 5E Simple Character Sheet if you want one

Very nice - I especially like the Weapons layout. Still can't figure out why there are only 4 slots on the standard sheet and no place to enter the weapon's range... though yours is missing the damage type (not that most people can't figure that out in 2 seconds if they don't already have it...

D&D 5E PHB Errata Nerf Unarmed Strikes!? WHY??? :(

While I agree with you that it is fun to at least start out a little less on the heroic end of the spectrum, 50/50 odds are pretty terrible when it's your life on the line - rare is the person that would even consider it let alone actually go out and attempt it. So in that sense, I'd say D&D...

D&D 5E PHB Errata Nerf Unarmed Strikes!? WHY??? :(

In the DMG they provide a few ideas on how to tweak the game to fit a specific theme such as Wu Xia, Epic Heroism, etc. It would have been cool if they had also introduced different levels of unarmed combat prowess for different themes - from one that would suit your table (perhaps disallow the...

D&D 5E Eldritch Blast and Repelling Blast - One time or Each Hit?

I think the biggest issue is that while a fighter can push up to 5 times with no resources, their shoves are not also inflicting damage at the same time, and they have to be in melee range, and the target has to be no more than one size larger, and they have to use their movement if they want to...

D&D 5E How far away can a person make perception checks?

The difficulty with 5e DCs is that there is such a wide disparity in bonuses from the Expertise Rogue to the ability-dumping non-proficient fighter, there is simpy not a DC that is interesting for both ends of the spectrum to roll. It's either "Why bother, I succeed even on a 1" (unless your DM...
