    WOIN AP Rounds in NEW

Of course, I think our goal here is to tweak the numbers to something that works and feels better. If this ends up as something more than an errata something will have gone wrong somewhere. Were I to assign numbers for ranges of SOAK, it'd probably follow the breaks between armor weights. HP...

    WOIN AP Rounds in NEW

If I may briefly steer the conversation back to its original course, I think something that would be highly beneficial (at least for me) would be to describe in detail what AP and HP rounds are intended to do. If we can quantify how good they're supposed to be (or how you'd tell overpowered vs...

    WOIN AP Rounds in NEW

I agree on your first point. AP rounds are too cheap for how effective they are against heavy armor. You are correct on your second point, which is why I also tested halving SOAK rather than ignoring 10. I also think the elephant in the room is energy weapons. Someone raised this point a few...

    WOIN AP Rounds in NEW

    10. I present the results from the GURPS idea, and also a hybrid where AP gives half SOAK and -1d6 damage (opposite for HP ammo). Not gonna lie, I like how this hybrid setup looks. Battlesuits are vulnerable to AP and almost immune to HP, and kevlar is about the same for both. I think I'm...

[For bigtino] Thread about heavy armor

Yes it does. I'll try to clean up the code and post it for others to review and use soon. It's currently a bit unwieldy and obtuse.

    WOIN AP Rounds in NEW

I rolled high enough on my Programming [LOG] check and got my WOIN damage simulation to give me a few useful things here. For the interested party, I took an attacker with an assault rifle and 5d6 attack pool, and a defender with 18 ranged defense and either kevlar or a battlesuit. I look at...

[For bigtino] Thread about heavy armor

Yep, the code does that automatically. I think the takeaway point from this is that the kevlar survives on being harder to hit. The lines for kevlar don't decrease as quickly as for the battlesuit, but they tend to start at a lower quantile.

[For bigtino] Thread about heavy armor

I finally got my code to do things correctly. I assumed attacks from someone with a 5d6 attack pool using an assault rifle (2d6+2 damage). The target has 14 range defense and either kevlar or a battlesuit. I simulated 10.000 attacks in every combination of Aim, Cover, Deadly Strike, and trade...

[For bigtino] Thread about heavy armor

I want to contribute to this conversation (and the one on AP ammo, but that's another thread), and I think I have a few things to point out that haven't yet been mentioned. Full disclosure, I deal with statistics questions similar to this relatively frequently. I'm not a statistician and anyone...

    N.E.W. Review

(For the lazy, the post in question is here). Having glanced through the extra stuff you added, I think the article stands much better now. One further comment I might make (feel free to take this or leave this) is in the second-last paragraph where you're talking about Traveller's 2d6 +/-...

    N.E.W. Review

You spend a lot of time talking about Traveller and how much you like it, but you don't really talk much about how or why N.E.W. has the potential to surpass Traveller. You mention a few things you like (a good basic mechanic, character creation, etc) but don't really explain why these are...

    Critical failures?

I can see the OP's point, and I can also see Morrus' point. A more competent character should have a lower chance of mucking things up, but I do think a "critical fail" mechanic is a feature that can be a lot of fun. A possible compromise would be if half the dice rolled are 1s then it's a...

WOIN OLD Ship Battles at Sea

I just made an account to necro this post, because I feel this is something I could actually contribute meaningfully to. I've dabbled with ideas for how to do reasonable tall ship combat (modern ships are much easier to deal with), and the most difficult thing is dealing with the wind...
