    The Shackled City Adventure Path

4 out of 5 rating for The Shackled City Adventure Path I think Schmoe hit the nail right on the read for the most part.Cauldron, teh default setting fort he path, is really the star of the show. The AP does a good job of showcasing the city and it's inhabitants. and players can really feel...

    The Morningstar Proprietor's Guild

Honestly, I like the idea of reaching out to local retailers/brick&mortar stores. That's something I'd like to see more companies support. So big kudos to them for that. That said, I'm at a bit of a loss with Trapdoor in general. Since the whole 5E deal fell through, it seems like they're a...

What Happens If CODENAME: MORNINGSTAR Doesn't Fund?

I think a big part of the problem with this whole scenario is the PERCPETION. I'm not a tech-guy in any sense of the word, but I think that, in all likelihood, the Kinckstarter amount requested is realistic. BUT, I think that: A) the intro video didn't really clearly elucidate what the...

    Mage: The Awakening

3 out of 5 rating for Mage: The Awakening I'll agree with what Trippyhippy wrote, and it's a problem that plagues (IMO) the entire NewWorldofDarkness(NWoD) line. The books are just not (IMO) as readable or as entertaining as the OriginalWorldofDarkness (OWoD) line.

    Dragonlance Adventure Series

4 out of 5 rating for Dragonlance Adventure Series And once again, Morrus beat me to the punch !I'll echo much of what he said.Dragonlance was, in many ways, a setting and concept ahead of it's time. The original DL series, hwoever, while dates, is still one of the most iconic D+D series of it's...

    Dread

5 out of 5 rating for Dread I'll agree 100% with what Morrus said. This is an exceptionally well-crafted, deceptively simple system. Though most everyone I've introduced this to was leary at first ("It uses a WHAT for action resolution?"), every single person who tried it has been a convert...

Got All 3 Books? Which One's Your Favourite?

While the production values for all 3 bokos are great, and there's useful info in all of them... I gotta go with the PHB. It's the gateway to the game. While it's not QUITE as newbie-friendly as it could have been, it's strides about most of the previous versions. (WHile I enjoy both 3.5 and...

War of the Burning Sky: The Complete Campaign

5 out of 5 rating for War of the Burning Sky: The Complete Campaign As adventure paths go, this one is a standout!Beginning with a well-thought out, logical campaign premise that allows the PC's to truly be the star of the show, these adventures flow togehter cohesively one into the next...

    Savage Tide Adventure Path

4 out of 5 rating for Savage Tide Adventure Path The Savage Tide Adventure Path gets a ton of points for inspiration and innovation, but not quite as much for execution. This path boasts a ton of memorable NPC's, and a similar metric ton of references that will inspire the grognards among us...

Hello all. New guy here, looking to start playing an RPG.

I wouldn't worry too much. You'll naturally find a happy medium basd on your interest and monetary situation. :) Besdies, Previous Editions of D+D have a metric ton of content, and Pathfinder continues to drop book after book, so it's hard even for a seriously dedicted collector to get...

Hello all. New guy here, looking to start playing an RPG.

Hello, and welcome aboard! I'm alwasy thrilled to read these posts and see that new people are continually being introduced to our hobby! I think (as some people have said), just "Get into a game and have fun!" Ruleset (and everyting else) is secondary to getting to game and have fun...

    Pathfinder 1E I love 5e!

Speaking for myself, it's not strictly an "Either/Or" deal. I can have the rules for and play BOTH, depending on the groups I'm involved in. I'm cerntainly not going to "Dump" Pathfinder after the time and effort I've already invested in playing, not to mention that I still intend to suport...

    Looking for new Card Games!

Of all the collectible card games I've played... The ones that still interest me and receive play on a regular basis are: Jyhad/Vampire the Eternal Struggle Shadowfist Middle Earth CCG [From I.C.E.] Babylon 5 [Perhaps the best-balanced multipplayer card I've played, though it's a fiar...

Whats up with Gandalf? Why is he such a nimrod?

While the level cap is debatable... Gandalf is MYTHIC for sure. He's one of the Istari (5 Wizards), and is a Maiar (the equivalent of a Celestial Being), and can battle the Balrog (ALSO a Maiar) for days on end! That said? Yeah, the Gandalf bits of the second movie didn't make mcuh sense anyway.

D&D 5E DMG release date pushed back

As an avowed Modron fan since their first appearence, I'd love to get a print of that Modron pic. Does anyone know who the artist for it was? It was very reminsiscent of DiTerlizzi/Planescape/Great Modron March era, while still bringing some modern artistic sensibilities to it.

    The Dumbing Down of RPGs

While I staunchly do not think Tabletop RPG's are being "Dumbed Down", I think they are going through a metemorphasis. (Not one I necessarily am in favor of, but that doesn't automatically mean they're being "dumbed down.") Under "Old Skool" game systems, the focus was on challenging the...

Two different perspectives on character concept

Though I would like to see another few sentecnes appended to it, the second example is not INHERENTLY inferior to the first, IMO. Sometimes brevity is an underrated commodity, epsecially since D+D is a "Team" game, and evetryone wants an wequal share of the "Spotlight". When I initally create...

Advice for Noob Call of Cthulhu Keeper...?

Learning on the run is never a bad thing! :) Yes, the emphasis on Trail is on the PC's never failing to miss vital clue. (One of the long-time complaints of CoC is that a single botched roll from the party can derail an adventure as the PC's never gain the clue needed to complete/defeat the...

How balanced should a game be?

While Frodo was a great fantasy novel character, how much fun would it be to PLAY him in an RPG in a party with Gimli, Legolas, Gandalf and Aragorn? You absolutely can; the problem comes when you try to incorporate all these widely disparate characters into a cohesive party! That's why you...

How balanced should a game be?

It's intersting this topic came up at this time. We had our first session of our new Eberron game (run under the PF ruleset) this week, and it was clear that the characters are NOT balanced, and comabt equality was DEFINTIELY an issue. Since we're using a PF adventure path, a certain of...
