D&D 5E Need a better houserule to fix Bladesinger's mechanics not supporting lore issue

Isn't this exactly the way it worked in 2e though? They couldn't cast spells in any armor unless it was Elven Chain? So I'm not sure what Lore precedent you are trying to match by fixing this editions mechanics. If anything they have the same issues as before but now the added bonus of being...

D&D 5E Need a better houserule to fix Bladesinger's mechanics not supporting lore issue

I'm confused. What's this discussion about Elven Chain proficiency? I wouldn't make Elven Chain a light armor (that comes with all kinds of balance concerns) I'd simply allow Bladesong to work in Elven Chain. Bladesinger was a 2e kit from the Complete Book of Elves (1993),in 2e alone it was...

    D&D 5E Forcecage

I much prefer this idea. Death doesn't escape. Death destroys.

    D&D 5E Forcecage

9 PCs is not something I even want to contemplate. However, like I said it doesn't have to be a reaction. If it's the solid cube version of Forcecage then it just buys time. The BBEG is safe until the spell runs out. It's just postponing the fight. You could let the PCs do it and then just...

    D&D 5E Forcecage

I'm a little confused by your post. Casting gaseous form will let someone slip through the bars of the cage version of forcecage, but not the solid box version. Making it a reaction doesn't really help with that. Casting it as a reaction to being forcecaged, would only make the caster gaseous...

D&D 5E Warlocks and Hex and the "daily morning short rest"

Almost everyone seems to be missing the OPs point, which is the fact that after casting Hex, you can short rest and get the slot back. Which means you have 1 active spell you are concentrating on and 2 slots free. Essentially giving yourself a 50% slot bonus. I don't have a problem with it...

D&D 5E Do Arcane Abilities work when bound and gagged?

When your conjurer is bound and gagged and can't cast spells is PRECISELY the time to let them summon a small object to save the day. How awesome would that player feel when their totally flavorful ribbon ability saves the day? It's too easy to think in terms of balance and realism and forget...

D&D 5E Magic Bow + Mundane Arrow = Magic Attack?

I let it count as magical. On one hand, I can see a case where the arrow isn't magical. In a way it is the logical solution, however, on the other hand in terms of balance I don't see any reason to penalise archers over and above melee types.

    D&D 5E Running Eberron in 5e

I'm a big 5e fan, but when I decided to run an Eberron game I went back to 3.5/PF simply because of the better rule support. I made it all of 4 levels before I got frustrated and switched us back to 5e. It was fortunate that the very day I decide to do it, the new UA Artificer was released...

D&D 5E Modifying the light crossbow to be a gunslingers pistol.

I like the idea, but I think the penalties are too severe for a one-step die increase. Increasing the damage from d6 to d8 is an average damage increase of +1. Over 20 hits, that's + 20 damage. If you assume a 50/50 hit rate that's about +10 damage per 20 shots. Then consider that a misfire...

D&D 5E Modifying the light crossbow to be a gunslingers pistol.

I was just going to call the hand crossbow a pistol and be done with it, but I'd like to emulate the risk/reward aspect of using firearms as well. i.e. they deal more damage but they can also blow up in your face. I looked at the DMG firearms, but they are significantly more powerful than a...

D&D 5E Modifying the light crossbow to be a gunslingers pistol.

So I did a bit of a search and read a bunch of 5e Gunslinger archetypes. Most of them seem awkward and trying to copy the exact rules of Pathfinder instead of the spirit of the class. I imagine that a standard archer battle master fighter with light crossbows does a good , if not better job at...

D&D 5E I need to increase my strength with a wish, what should i say?

There is precisely zero ways to prevent being screwed over. There is nothing you can say that will protect you or can't be twisted to some alternate meaning. It's just a fact of language and communication. Either your DM is going to grant your wish or he's going to screw you over. May as well...

D&D 3E/3.5 Issues that might arise from a "core book only" 3.5 campaign and possible fixes?

Thanks everyone, I think I'll keep it simple and roll with "Core Only". It sounds like I shouldn't have any real problems that way. The campaign won't be going over 12th level so that should minimise caster supremacy. If anyone is really interested in using something non-core further down the...

D&D 3E/3.5 Issues that might arise from a "core book only" 3.5 campaign and possible fixes?

I have two types of players in my group. I have a couple of very experienced gamers who played lots of 3.5 years ago, but mostly noobs who are playing their second campaign ever and so far have only experienced 5e. I wanted to run a "core only" game because I figured that a lot of the problem...

D&D 3E/3.5 Issues that might arise from a "core book only" 3.5 campaign and possible fixes?

Yeah, I saw them. Thanks. No questions for now. I want to open up the books for players that are interested without fear of opening the flood gates. that's a good start.

Thanks, these are the kind of "fixes" I was looking for.
