    Ranger is the new monk?

I believe he combined a couple of thoughts into one there. Better hit (due to higher strength) and better damage (due to higher strength AND eladrin soldier feat).

    D&D 4E 4e, Non-Martial Characters, and Limited Feat Choices

Strangely, I've had a much different experience. So far I've had the time to build two characters, one Eladrin Wizard focused on Ice Powers (level 11), and one Dwarf Fighter focused on glaive use (level 20). And in both cases, I have not felt a lack of available options at any point. There...

    Ranger is the new monk?

Yikes! Sounds like your paladin is pulling double duty as defender and leader. I wonder how much more staying power your character would have if you had a full blown leader in the party. Your character also seems to invalidate the concerns that some people voiced that con doesn't matter as...

Okay people, a little wake up call.

and on the subject of only being able to cast fireball once per day, you can only cast one spell named fireball per day. Spells that are in essence pretty much the same as fireball, but aren't called "fireball" may be cast more frequently. for example: 1 at-will power, burst 1 fire 1...

Okay people, a little wake up call.

From the information I have, a level 1 wizard gets 4 cantrips, 2 at-wills, 1 encounter, and your choice of 1 of 2 daily powers. You also gets 3 rituals, right off the bat, no paying involved. So, abbreviated, it looks like: 4/2/1/1(2) + 3 rituals for a total of 12 unique known spells...

number of utility powers at 30?

If 7 is the correct number, wouldn't the wizard get 12 to choose from? (2x5 from class, 1 from paragon path, 1 from epic destiny)? And if you took the expanded spellbook feat, 17 (3x5 from class, 1 from paragon path, 1 from epic destiny)?

number of utility powers at 30?

Howdy folks, Been checkin out the 4e characters that people have been posting and I have I question. How many utility powers does the printed book say you get at level 30? I ask because between the different level 30's I've seen posted here, some have 7 utility powers (5 from the class, 1...

    An Example Character, Levels 1-30

I'm working up a cold power based wizard. It's pretty much a hybrid between controller and blaster. Built as level 1 and level 11 so far. Not quite finished, I have everything picked out, just need to add up all the numbers and fill in the blanks. I have a busy afternoon today, so most...

OK, when do you ever "NOT" use a power and do a basic attack?

Although, in both the case of the magic missile and the eldritch blast, they are basic ranged attacks. There are, most likely, times when your additional action is a basic melee attack, not a basic ranged attack.

    Keep on the Shadowfell preview

first off, a humongous thank you to thalmin for giving us all of these sweet scoops. One thing I'd like to ask (that I haven't seen so far in this thread) is can you list the fighter's damage with his maul? I'm wondering if we can determine what the benefits are for wielding weapons two handed.

well, to be a little more precise... nature as a choice for a trained skill. The leaked picture from GAMA gives the ranger a choice between nature and edit streetwise dungeoneering

    Multiclassing.

Hmm, with the inability to gain class "styles" from multiclassing, that leaves some paragon paths for main-class characters only, such as Stormwarden (prereq: ranger, TWF style) This I like. While I enjoyed the mix-and-match 3e multiclassing, I'm not terribly upset by 4e throwing that out the...

    Excerpt: powers (merged)

And if he had a feat or class ability (brutal path perhaps) that gave 1 1/2x attribute bonus damage on sneak attacks, that would correlate the +6 with the +9. edit: could be a paragon path feature There would also have to be something about that magic weapon that increased its bonus damage on...

    Excerpt: powers (merged)

From the pic of the cards and sheet, I'm seeing three different types of cards. One for attacks (arranged like the cat burglar's gambit card), one for utility, and I'm guessing one for other powers that don't involve attacks. It also looks like he's got all of his consumable attacks oriented...

Ah good call! That makes more sense. The 13 was bugging me, but I figured they had just randomly put cards out there for the photo teaser.

    Excerpt: powers (merged)

I'm guessing that the blue 14 written over the "hit" means that this card is adjusted for this character playing at 14th level. The power itself looks to be picked up at 11, according to the card.

Difficult to read the last picture once scaled up, but, it looks like most of the powers have 1d8+6 or 4d8+9 for their damage values. Two different weapons perhaps?
