Oops, I failed a Breathe check

And I stand by that statement regardless of how anyone else feels or any heat I might take from it, because underlying everything else, this is the ultimate outcome. I run two separate groups on alternating weekends. Each group is comprised of 5-6 players. One group in particular, I've been...

Oops, I failed a Breathe check

Agreed. But it is a group by which the DM/GM decides which game is being played and how. The players then have the option to play or not. Sure they can voice opinions about certain elements, but ultimately, the DM/GM makes the call and the players should respect those decisions or not play...

Oops, I failed a Breathe check

It's not about what the players want....ever. It's about what the DM/GM has decided to run and how he has decided to run it. The only choice the players have is whether or not they play.

Oops, I failed a Breathe check

Actually, I'd be fine either way. Why? Because it isn't that complex of an issue for me or my group. If we play with crits and fumbles or without, we're having fun either way. I just don't see the point in getting worked up over something bad happening in a D&D game, once, twice, or a dozen...

Oops, I failed a Breathe check

I guess I'm not seeing the problem. Rolling a nat 20 for crit and nat 1 for failure has been around since, well, forever. The odds of rolling a 1 on the d20 represent that miniscule chance that your character encounters a worst case scenario, regardless of how great they are at something. It...

    A D&D Edition... into a SINGLE picture... (?)

Do you want/are you ready for a D&D 5th edition?

I voted yes, just because I'm mildly curious to see what the WotC thinks the next step in the game's design should be. But quite honestly, over the last few months I've realized I'm kinda sick and tired of the WotC/D&D roller coaster. Tired of the constant edition changes, tired of what feels...

DMs: What are your character pet peeves?

Characters with in-depth character backgrounds prior to start or background/history that describes the character as being someone of "importance" at 1st level. Players who play characters as if they had knowledge of modern era concepts. Characters (or players) who want to initiate deep romance...

Racial Level Limits: Did you Use Them?

We used them in most games, ignored them in a few here and there. More often than not we used the modified levels adjustment options where available.

    Bad DMs/GMs

DMs or GMs who have a preconceived story to tell. Railroading. Fudging dice rolls to avoid severe damage, negative consequences, or character death. (Usually tied to the preconceived story) Asking for predetermined and detailed character backgrounds. In D&D, handing out magic items like candy.

    Anyone excited for DCC RPG?

I'm definitely looking forward to the DCCRPG to come out. After reading the Beta and the Free RPG Day module, it was the first RPG since 2e, to make me feel like finally, somebody gets what D&D is suppose to be.

Time to Shine - Favorite Character(s) of all time

AD&D 1E Lhogan Kael Human 5th Level Ranger He wore leather armor and fought with either a spear and shield, or two hand/throwing axes. When first getting into a fight, he would count coup with a coup stick, before pulling weapons. As part of his enmity towards an enemy, he would always take a...

To Fudge or not to Fudge...

No fudging, as DM or player. Don't tolerate it from other players either.

    Instant Edition Converter

In theory I'm sure a lot of players would enjoy such a tool, but personally, I would have zero interest in playing across multiple editions.

How to leave a group. Read before posting.

While it might not be the optimal thing to do, you could simply stop playing (at least as long as you can stand it) and take the time to focus your enjoyment of the hobby into another area, such as campaign design. Just tell your Dad that you want a break for a while, in the mean time work on...

Looking for monster and terrain inspiration

I have to echo what some others have already said, try going with natural predators or even giant/dire versions of those predators. Humans would fit well into that setting and also make great villains. You could also consider the use of elementals (or variations of) depending on time of year.

Where do you go for RPG reviews?

I usually visit here and RPG.net for catching up on the latest hoopla. I like to get a wide range of opinions on products out or coming out. EnWorld and RPGnet appear to be the best sites for variety gaming.

Favorite D&D setting (of those listed)?

I had to go with Birthright. Looking past the whole political scene, which in itself is awesome, the setting is well written and offers a lot of variety.
