In answer to this question I would say "sure!". For my part I am currently running Hoard of the Dragon Queen. If I could do it over I would pluck out the individual chapters and run it less 'by the book'.

I'm not a Realms fan, but have no problem playing/running games in them. I discard all cannon/lore and Reskin/discard things we don't like. I do like that the skeleton/framework of various locations and organizations are there.

Since WoTC's lack of presence will have no effect on wether we purchase a product they produce it was sound business to have a limited presence. The small fraction of disappointed people at GenCon aren't a large enough population to be concerned with.

I'm not indifferent to 5e or it's 'problems'. Im indifferent to another 'I know better than the game designers' post, which I find facile and filled with personal preferences. Bottom line is you don't like 5e. That isn't a reason it will fail. If you find it boring I suggest you find another DM.

The OP's lack of communication skills is why 5e will fail.
