    D&D 5E Finding 5th edition too "safe".

My increase in lethality works more like this: Long rests regain half of your hit dice (no overnight healing, just half your hit dice) You can only use 1 hit-die per hour (once per short rest) If an attack brings you to negative Constitution score (score, not modifier) it is lethal (this one...

D&D 5E What single new class would you like to see?

One idea I haven't seen anywhere that I think would be really neat is a 'Mighty Hero' type class. I'm thinking in terms of a martial strength-based class that does a Thor or Heracles type thing where, for instance, a fighter gets multiple hits this class only gets one but it is far more powerful...

    D&D 5E Suffocating

In HOTDQ an otyugh can grab a player and pull them under the water. In that encounter they try to bash the player against a wall and the player has to make (if I remember correctly) a concentration save (DC10 or half-damage taken, whatever's higher CON save) or have the wind knocked out of them...

Sage Advice 3/21/16 Exploding druids and antimagic field vs zombies and cure wounds

This is exactly what we have done in our campaign as well. Since shapechange is the major druid shtick, that seemed to be the most appropriate thing to take away for this unique restriction.

D&D 5E Scaling Low CR NPCs

I was considering doing that (to the point where I actually had the names you suggested down); the image posted above is just an organizational thing while I'm writing it:)

D&D 5E Scaling Low CR NPCs

I'm thinking of making four levels of mage for different schools. ie. apprentice, adept, master, arch- followed by illusionist, necromancer, evoker, etc.

D&D 5E Scaling Low CR NPCs

I am working on re-writing low CR NPC statblocks to higher CR NPC statblocks. My idea is to just create a resource so a DM can have stat blocks available for DMs who don't want to go to all the trouble of actually balancing small tweaks for their party and am wondering if anyone would like to...

D&D 5E April Fools' Day Game ideas

Absolutely do this, yes!^^^ My April Fool's consists of a party of level 0 adventurers dealing with a town's jackalope problem. Level 0 PC: Medium races have 8+CON HP Small races have 6+CON HP Point-Buy is done with 20 points to spend (10 if you're a child.) Starting Wealth: 10d10 silver, one...

D&D 5E alternate coinage, ie "non decimal gold"

My system uses base-10 because it's convenient, but the values have been changed. On character creation you multiply starting gold by 10 and call it silver. It's 10 copper to the silver, 100 silver to the gold, and 1000 gold to the platinum. Additionally, there are Empirical Papers (EP) which...

D&D 5E Halving the natural healing rate?

My game has natural healing like so: Short Rest: You may spend one hit-die per hour rested. Long Rest: You regain one hit-die. Comfortable Long Rest: You regain half you total hit-dice (rounding up). Comfortable being a rest where natural conditions do not inhibit sleep (ie. if you're in a...

    D&D 5E How To Make a Good D&D Videogame

I wrote this to a few friends after playing an hour of Sword Coast Legends and quitting. Just gonna quote it directly here. "I want it to be a game of D&D, or, rather, a dungeon crawl. I'm just talking put in all the core races and classes and abilities are done as they would be done in-game...

D&D 5E Flight ability: Does this make the Aarakocra overpowered?

Hovering, but not hovering as the ability. If it pleases you, have the player say they are flying directly upward at the same speed that gravity is pulling them down. This seems like it would fit your requirements. If saying this becomes tiring or drawn-out, let them hover.

    D&D 5E 5th Edition Intelligence

I know houserules aren't relevant to this, but at my game INT+1 is the number of languages you can be literate in (you can know more, but only read and write INT+1). As for the about forbidding a low-int player from formulating a strategy, I tend to look at my players of people of average...

    D&D 5E What is a Warlord [No, really, I don't know.]

I am a relatively new player of D&D, having started with the 5e playtest and gone on from there. I have not played any on 1st to 4th edition. I have noticed quite a few threads on Warlords and have stayed away since so many threads seem like just an argument rather than a discussion. But now...
