D&D 5E What Races for the 5E PHB

Regardless of how I personally may feel about any particular D&D race, I think the 5e PHB should have all the races published in every edition's core book or PHB, if only to keep everyone happy. I think the races should also be classified as something like "common" (ex. human, dwarf, elf...

Do You Want A D&D That Is "Faster, Better, Smarter"?

I was reading today's Legends and Lore and something Mr. Cook said in the article gave me pause: "We don't want a new iteration of the game to be only a "best of" of the prior editions. If we did, there would be no reason to play it. It needs to achieve the goal of not only giving you the play...

    Morale

I'd like to see morale as an optional rule in core, and clearly indicated as such (a la 2e). Also, a call me crazy, but I'd like to to see the return of the reaction table, with Charisma (and maybe feats, class features, whatever) modifying the roll instead of "I Diplomatize him."

A Barbarian Prince Schools Me On D&D

So last weekend, I downloaded, printed, and played an old-school, solo RPG-style board game called Barbarian Prince (download it free and legal). In a nutshell, you play an exiled barbarian prince, wandering around the map getting into all sorts of Choose Your Own Adventure-style wackiness...

Should a GM be a Captain or Navigator?

Captain? Navigator? Nay! the GM is MASTER AND COMMANDER!!! But don't let it get to your head, or you'll have a Costa Concordia for a campaign.

    Pics From The DDXP Playtest

Interesting to note that it's the original Caves of Chaos map the DM is looking at. I wonder if they ran Keep on the Borderlands straight off of the original module. Also, Paizo Flip Mat :D

Is anybody else seeing C&C here?

I think it's more of a case of similar design principles: - Evokes "classic" D&D - Modular/compatible with nearly all D&D editions - Easy to run/play That said, the idea of using attributes for saves, which was mentioned in the seminar, is straight up C&C :D I do hope they stick with these...

What are you working on? (Playing, GMing, desigining, etc)

Running: A 4e Neverwinter campaign. Working on: Injecting more old-school, previous edition feel/stuff into the above campaign. Playing: Skyrim, which interferes w/ the above

What's your favorite edition of D&D (so far)?

Although I have liked all editions thus far, I have to say, by the "good times" meter, that AD&D 2nd Edition wins out, with BECMI/RC as a close second. Wow! I'm really in the minority poll-wise

    Let's Forget the Forgotten Realms

As someone who got into D&D during the 2e era and its many worlds, I vote for LESS settings and MORE info on making your own setting. I may be in the minority here, though :uhoh:

Buy This Book: The Book of Weird

Amazon.com: The Book of Weird (9780385065917): Barbara N. Byfield: Books I saw this book mentioned in a forum thread and picked it up on a whim. OMG this book is good! I mean, bacon-level good! :p In a nutshell: it appears to be a book about fairy tale "tropes", but it basically describes...

    The Keep Rule

That's not really how it worked. You could still "keep" the keep (heh), but you had to field your troops and staff out of your own pocket. What happened at "Name" level was that your charcter had built up enough of a reputation that if you built a keep, loyal followers would flock to your...

    Dungeon graffiti

"The pie is a lie!" *some blood and scratches* "Da orc isnt!" I imagine the most common graffiti in dungeons would be glyphs like the ones described in the World of Greyhawk folio or the Forgotten Realms Campaign Set. Admittedly, I've never used these much (if ever). I might have to change...
