Adamant Ventures 4th early as well

I just mean that normally one would need to name the thing you're indicating compatibility with, which makes you subject to risky trademark law since most names are trademarked. But since everyone knows what Adamant is referring to without them having to say Dungeons & Dragons (R), that makes...

Goodman Games Releasing 4e Adventures Prior to October 1st

After seeing Adamant going the no-license route and Goodman not using any D&D names I'm betting GG is going no-license as well. They'll make a bundle at GENCON and the notoriety of the lawsuit will probably net them even more cash -- they'll be slashdotted out the yin-yang.

Adamant Ventures 4th early as well

The highlighted 4e in Venture 4th is pretty clever. Also, it's an indicator of how being the 800 lb gorilla can actually backfire for WotC. Everyone who plays RPGs knows what you're referring to when you say 4e -- so there's little need to actually put the D&D logo on your module.

    Redbrick signs GSL

Yeah, it's a quintessential points of light setting.

Dude, he's already at a university -- he teaches law there.

GSL & SRD -- Comments, Questions, and Hopes

Which is a sad side-effect of the GSL. The Wilderlands and City State are great points of light (er, or darkness) settings for 4e. I can probably just ignore the stats for Wilderlands -- but for city supplements I really prefer to have the NPC stats too.

[Necromancer] Necro still in for 4E!

Will the first Iron tower module be coming in October too? (besides the download that is).

    Front Page GSL Q&A

They could release it under a new system under no license or under some other open license. But Mongoose actually did release Runequest under the OGL, so that would be out (unless you made some other arrangement). The unfortunate bit is that the OGL is the de facto RPG standard due to long use...

FantasyGrounds Takes Legal Action Against WotC

Could be angling for a settlement where they get to include some version of a 4e character sheet in their software.

Not Yet Available: Points of Conflict -- a 4E Licensed Product

Free RPG day is on the 21st -- that's also below the 14 day window, so to be fair you ought to be warning Goodman games too.

    Front Page GSL Q&A

Wanted to say that the little Q&A on the front page is great and should help tamp down (though never wholly remove) the conspiracy theories and rumors flying about. But this quote from the end, seems to give the wrong impression: I bolded the part that I think could be misleading. Under the...

    4e D&D GSL Live

Yah -- actually I think that's the second reason they don't use the OGL -- they're too worried about screwing it up again and some blackmail-prone publisher actually making them liquidate books!

    4e D&D GSL Live

There's a simple reason for this -- because if they did use open content then they would have to release under the hated OGL.

    4e D&D GSL Live

For that sort of license based on a setting, you're right. But licenses based on using a rules system or engine in order to express your original fictional content do not ordinarily have going-forward restrictions. For instance, you can get a Savage Worlds game system license by dealing with...

Feelings About 4e vrs Feelings About the GSL

Like 4e, not so sure about GSL. Which is too bad, because 4e is a system that could really benefit from lots of support. Remember all those droves of spell books for 1e, 2e, and 3e? Now every character class can benefit from books like that. I've also noticed that the Dragon articles are...

Mongoose 3.0/3.5 Grand Archive - Any Interest?

There's also license text within the books themselves that you'd need to edit. And, I'm not sure about this but it's a concern I have, in a lot of books you might mention the "d20 system" in the text repeatedly. If you need to change all those references to the OGL system or whatever, then...

GSL & SRD -- Comments, Questions, and Hopes

As another example -- my little PDF, Skill Focus: Talking, which presents some ideas for merging skill use into a roleplaying encounter, is something that I've been wanting to convert to a variety of game systems (e.g. Runequest, Traveler, etc) but I couldn't do that if I updated it to the GSL...

You reap what you sow - GSL.

Yah, I'm pretty sure ENWorld always has and always will fall under WotC's fan-site policies.

You reap what you sow - GSL.

Mongoose has also paid money for the rights to classic game systems such as Runequest and Traveler -- then turned around and released those rules under the OGL for anyone to use for free -- including offering free downloadable SRDs for both rulesets. Whatever one thinks about the quality of...

Will lack of 3rd party support affect your 4E play?

I run a game mainly off modules and they were almost all 3rd party modules in 3e. I'll still run 4e regardless of 3rd party support because it seems really fun so far, but if 3rd party support is low it's likely that I'll "drift" and run other game systems more frequently than I did during the...
