D&D 5E Is the new setting Icewind Dale?

And following that logic, neither is Icewind Dale. It's just a small part of one of the most overdone settings in D&D.

D&D 5E WotC Announces An Impending Announcement: New Setting, Storyline

/shrug WOTC doesn't seem to be too worried about pilfering things from other settings and transplanting them into Forgotten Realms all in the quest for the almighty dollar. I don't think they really care too much about Canon.

D&D 5E WotC Announces An Impending Announcement: New Setting, Storyline

The good thing about Innistrad and Zendikar is that I will save more money. They might be great settings but there are plenty of classic D&D settings that I love and would like to see new content for. I don't have much interest in learning more settings.

D&D 5E Is the new setting Icewind Dale?

Do they know how to make any other type of adventure. While I thought the adventure needed a lot of work on the part of the DM, I really liked the concept behind Dragon Heist. Would love to see more single Tier adventures that focus on an area and also double as a source book.

D&D 5E WotC Announces An Impending Announcement: New Setting, Storyline

I don't see it lining up with Icewind Dale at all. Curse of Strahd wasn't a setting book though. Barovia is a small part of the Domains of Dread and every part has a much different feel to them. I could see them easily deciding to run another adventure based off another a different domain and...

D&D 5E WotC Announces An Impending Announcement: New Setting, Storyline

Let's not forget about Chris Perkin's twitter tease back in November.

D&D 5E Dungeon of the Mad Mage - Boring?

I am not sure if that was something added in 3E, 4E, or this is new to 5E but I never understood the appeal in items that recharge every day. Sure it's appealing for the players but it's a bit monty haul for my taste. AD&D items had defined numbers of charges. When they were spent, they were...

D&D 5E Dungeon of the Mad Mage - Boring?

I learned my lesson with WOTC's lazy design but one could read this from the back of DotMM and certainly believe they were getting the whole meal, not a collection of recipes.

D&D 5E Dungeon of the Mad Mage - Boring?

I misunderstood what you meant. I thought you were advocating for the low magic that is seen in most of the adventures. Player's love magic items and I just don't understand why they were minimized in the grand scheme of 5E. Some players love roleplay, some love combat, some love...

D&D 5E Dungeon of the Mad Mage - Boring?

The problem is those guidelines. 5E by the book is all about balancing classes, balancing encounters, balancing progression, balancing treasure. /yawn I don't advocate throwing piles of treasure just in a horde because you can but just like the players, intelligent monsters like to accumulate...

D&D 5E Dungeon of the Mad Mage - Boring?

We noticed the same thing. I don't have enough experience with 5E Adventure Paths to really have a qualified opinion on this but we have run LMoP, DragonHeist, DotMM, and Ghosts of Saltmarsh and found the same to be across the board. Because of bounded accuracy items with pluses to attack and...

D&D 5E Dungeon of the Mad Mage - Boring?

I ran DragonHeist and it was the best campaign starter that we ever had....but I added so much content to it and changed a lot of what was in the book. DH took us 22 five-hour sessions to complete. The mistake we made after was going right into DotMM. We had spent 22 sessions with tons of...

    D&D 2E Edition Experience - Did/Do you Play AD&D 2E? How Was/Is It?

I am guessing that you meant to say that you would steer clear except for the 1E? I ran almost exclusively homebrew for 30 years. A few years of 5E got me trying some published modules and I have been pretty disappointed in the quality. Lately I have been diving head first into old 1E modules...

    D&D 2E Edition Experience - Did/Do you Play AD&D 2E? How Was/Is It?

Nice. Dungeon #78. Will have to check out your adventure. Actually I removed the link because i'm not sure on the status of old Dragon/Dungeon magazines but anyone can easily google it and check it out.

    D&D 2E Edition Experience - Did/Do you Play AD&D 2E? How Was/Is It?

The Thief and Fighter were the only two Complete books I owned and we used them. It wasn't until decades later that I saw the other Complete books and saw how poorly some were written. I did own the Player's Option books when they released but never really used them. I plan to explore them...

    D&D 2E Edition Experience - Did/Do you Play AD&D 2E? How Was/Is It?

My group started with 1st Edition but we moved to a 1E/2E hybrid in 89. We kept the Barbarian and Thief/Acrobat from 1E UA for a couple years. I still reference the 1E DMs guide to this day. I DM'd 2E until about 4 years ago when we switched to 5E. As a DM I have never liked 5E and as a...
