    D&D 5E Enhancing Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos (+)

I made massive changes to Strixhaven: Ignored most of the adventure, which I thought was very weak, and instead repurposed it as a settings book The BBEG in the adventure is not the main villain after all Instead of stretching out the adventure last a few years, it was only a couple weeks. Game...

D&D General Keys from the Golden Vault look through.

It could conclude with the PCs realizing that the Golden Vault is actually a front for your BBEG. (Cliché yes but D&D often is.)

D&D 5E Which of these possible endings do you prefer to see in every published adventure *as written*?

I won't write much here as to hopefully avoid biasing the results of this poll. If helpful, benchmark examples of: Only 1 ending examined & explored as written = i.e., Wild Beyond the Witchlight No heroically good ending written as is = i.e., Prisoner 13 of Keys from the Golden Vault Adventure...

D&D General Keys from the Golden Vault look through.

If it is metallic dragons behind the Golden Vault, it couldn't be Gold or Silver or Bronze, not by their RAW alignment (=lawful good) That only leaves Brass and Copper.

D&D 5E Is it right for WoTC to moralize us in an adventure module?

Fair to your point, and it's still not that simple as you put it. Because even within that meta gaming paradigm, I actually have seen adventures where the author thinks through the different potential options. They take the time and effort to cover a handful of possibilities and describe...

D&D 5E Is it right for WoTC to moralize us in an adventure module?

who actually stated they are mad at being told that "murder is not approved"? Where does it actually say that anywhere here? C'mon folks, let's at least take the time to read what people write.

D&D 5E Is it right for WoTC to moralize us in an adventure module?

But why? Why is that outside of the realm of possibility for the Golden Vault to arrange a lawful and good treaty between their agent and the Lords' Alliance? Why is the lawful diplomatic approach less likely to succeed than breaking into a maximum security prison? Why is the lawful...

D&D 5E Is it right for WoTC to moralize us in an adventure module?

True, and the remaining questions that @Tonguez asked are entirely pertinent ("Why is a heist the best option? Why is handing sensitive information to dodgy people the good outcome?")

D&D 5E Is it right for WoTC to moralize us in an adventure module?

I guess the only way to know for sure is to talk to the authors of Prisoner 13, Mazfroth's Mighty Digressions, etc. and ask them what exactly were their intentions when they chose to use so-and-so words? Which is highly unlikely to get a good answer. It's actually Neutral Evil. I know in TV we...

D&D 5E Is it right for WoTC to moralize us in an adventure module?

Then why does she need the ledger? Either the "good" ending of the adventure requires that the PCs unknowingly aid and abet a criminal mastermind, or not inquire too closely why she needs it. Neither is optimal for me.

D&D 5E Is it right for WoTC to moralize us in an adventure module?

A plot point that, arguably, compels a good PC to want to report it to the prison warden and say, "Hey your prisoner that you thought was secured, she's actually still doing her thing."

D&D 5E Is it right for WoTC to moralize us in an adventure module?

Actually the adventure is clear that the prisoner is still operating as normal despite the anti magic. I agree that protagonists in The Witcher and Game of Thrones could be about making less-evil type decisions. I think D&D (at least my D&D) is about the right to make good decision, not just...

D&D 5E Is it right for WoTC to moralize us in an adventure module?

Sure, I was thinking of that when I wrote "One could say that the author themselves is not trying to moralize which ending is good or bad, as it is only conveyed as the opinion of the organization in the fiction" But then it still boggles my mind why a Lawful Good organization (as much as I...

D&D 5E Is it right for WoTC to moralize us in an adventure module?

In the recent Prisoner 13 adventure, to me the adventure submits that there is a morally "better" ending and the other endings are morally problematic. Spoilers for non-DMs or whomever plans to play this adventure: Unfortunately, the adventure offers exactly zero guidance here for DMs and...

Not a Conspiracy Theory: Moving Toward Better Criticism in RPGs

I 100% agree, everybody has a choice to make. I believe my statement was accurate: Psychologically and pragmatically speaking, the most helpful ideal scenario is when each of us focuses on ourselves and treats others as we wish to be treated in turn.

Not a Conspiracy Theory: Moving Toward Better Criticism in RPGs

“We judge ourselves by our intentions and others by their behaviour.” ― Stephen M.R. Covey I agree it would help if there wasn't a presumption of ill-intent, but being very human, others are mostly likely to respond to (their interpretation of) what we actually said and/or how we said it. I...
