Pathfinder 2E Free Archetype Variant Rule - if you DON'T use it, why, and how did your players react?

I think it's fair to assume he feels like he's getting more out of the even levels where he gets a free feat, and not the ones where he doesn't.

Pathfinder 2E Free Archetype Variant Rule - if you DON'T use it, why, and how did your players react?

Free Archetype gives them an extra feat each level, so it would be rather strange if they felt like they didn't get more out of the even levels.

Pathfinder 2E Free Archetype Variant Rule - if you DON'T use it, why, and how did your players react?

I'm not familiar with the thinking you're bringing from Pathfinder 1st edition, as I didn't play it. I try to judge 2nd edition on its own merits. Can you elaborate on which design discussions the variant was involved in and what the considerations and conclusions were? I'm not familiar with...

Player-driven campaigns and developing strong stories

I don't think you should set up scenes in your adventures. I prefer thinking of adventure locations or events in terms of scenarios. The party might get a mission to eliminate the boss of a dungeon, so assuming they survive, then sure, they will probably end up confronting the boss. But I don't...

Pathfinder 2E Free Archetype Variant Rule - if you DON'T use it, why, and how did your players react?

I don’t see other justifications listed in the book, but as I suggested, every table can alter the game's rules any way they like with whichever justifications they can come up with. Make the game your own. You don't have to do things exactly as the rules, the book, or the designers, say. But I...

Pathfinder 2E Free Archetype Variant Rule - if you DON'T use it, why, and how did your players react?

It’s the justification the game provides for using the rule. You can of course give stuff for any reason if you like. That goes without saying. For example, if you think PCs should have 3 more skills to broaden their areas of competence, you can give them 3 more skills.

Pathfinder 2E Is it fun to play a caster in PF2?

I played in a bunch of BECMI groups back then and also DMed. Common house rules were negative HP, critical hits and the dreaded critical fumbles. I didn't experience spell disruption being house ruled away. Not sure what the purpose of that would be, so it seems a strange house ruling to add.

Pathfinder 2E Free Archetype Variant Rule - if you DON'T use it, why, and how did your players react?

I don't use it in my game, as the campaign doesn't revolve around a theme where it makes sense for each character to have a specific archetype. We're also not short on players, so the party is able to cover roles and skills sufficiently without needing extra help. The players haven't had a...

    Diablo IV

There are a bunch of things that don't jive with me concerning Diablo IV, but perhaps some of those will be addressed before release. I played a lot of Diablo 1 and 2, and briefly enjoyed Diablo 3. Right now, I'm just waiting for the System Shock remaster, which releases at the end of this...

WOTC "Dungeon" CD: old dungeon generator

I suppose some of the room descriptions might have exits in or out of the dungeon. Like a spiral staircase, a rope hanging from the ceiling or a teleporter.

Black Flag Black Flag Playtest 2: Magic, Luck, Fighter, Wizards!

You could probably make a pretty cool megadungeon based on Ultima Underworld.

Black Flag Black Flag Playtest 2: Magic, Luck, Fighter, Wizards!

I first saw the term "Circle" used in place of spell levels in the CPRG, Ultima VII. I have a bit of a bias towards it.

You could probably sell them still. Some prefer the style or simplicity of the older models.

    D&D 5E Sorcerer experiment - your thoughts?

Another option is to bar the caster from all spells of that level for the day when failing a spell casting check. Would not affect spells normally of infinite use, such as cantrips. You could also let the spell go off on the failed check. You could use advantage/disadvantage to control casting...

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

As the players draw closer to dealing with the local graveayard, I have increased incentive to focus on undead models. In this case a lot of skeletons from HeroQuest.

D&D 5E Armor idea would like some feedback was inspired by Nerdarchy video on armor that was posted on YT recently. " D&D Equipment: Armor Sucks! Let's Fix I

I describe the effects of armor narratively. Taking hit point damage while wearing armor is typically something along the lines of the blow striking your armor and you feeling the impact through it. Once HP goes to about one third, hits start finding weaknesses in the armor and drawing blood. I...

Shadowdark RPG: An Interview with Kelsey Dionne

    D&D 5E Sorcerer experiment - your thoughts?

I was thinking of adding miscasts to get rid of tracking spell slots (or rather spell points, which is my current method), but with nasty stuff only happening on a natural 1 and perhaps just minor annoyances on a regular failure. Since I also use both a spell casting check for the spell to even...
