Discworld's Headed For A Million Dollars!

Indeed. Yet for some reason folks are never as concerned with conveying the satire, and I hope the game contains a usable thesis on how to implement that as well.

    How the Discworld TTRPG Works

Ironically I actually think the system is more convoluted than it needs to be, as comparing two results creates an odd gap in probabilities, an additional out of narrative transaction, and undermines the whole 'nat20 experience' one gets when they immediately know how well they did. So I propose...

Discworld's Headed For A Million Dollars!

Just watched the actual play premiere with Quinn, and while the players were certainly part of the appeal, the characters themselves had plenty of interesting traits to play off of. Could even run this using Aspect only Fate, or Amber style secret bidding. Not my favorite system by any measure...

Welcome to Night Vale TTRPG Crowdfunding Announced

Read the r/nightveil AMA, and I swear the answers sound like they were generated by AI. Lots of words, no information other than how this game is compatible with all the other RPGs published by #Renegade. Found out elsewhere the only thing making your character weird is a single 'Weird' skill...

RPG Evolution: The Right to Write

So the question ultimately is: Do you have copyright over work generated by an AI exclusively trained on the work you already have copyright to? Because if the corpos have their way they'll absolutely push for an affirmative answer, which won't be the win independent artists think, but...

    There's A VOLTRON RPG Coming!

Shame the system itself is trash. The only company I have less confidence in is #Renegade. Sadly I think this is just standard operating procedure in fandoms at this point.

    How the Discworld TTRPG Works

System seems fine, and should be more concerned with unexpected outcomes rather than outright failures anyway. So the secret sauce is in how the consequences will be decided.

Final Fantasy XIV Getting an Official TTRPG

Ultimately 5e is a fine fit for most RPG settings, as most RPG mechanics are essentially just variations in attributes, randomizers, and modifiers. Shame it's just a bit more cumbersome than it needs to be.

    Conveying Setting Information

Granted, but lorehounds at least take an interest in the setting, which along with lore itself is as rare as hen's teeth these days. Meanwhile both VtM and WtA are unique in that they don't require a player to know the setting in order to play, because it's essentially the world we already live...

Discworld TTRPG Kickstarter to Launch October 15

The system is said to be based on wordplay and interpretation, which has me intrigued, but I wonder if they're going to try and tie it to their 2D20 system somehow.

    Marvel Multiverse TTRPG

Easily one of the worst designed RPGs I've ever encountered, both in final and beta form, and I genuinely don't understand how its designer continues to get work beyond simply having the right connections. If you took a shot evert time you needed to ignore a rule or result that didn't work you'd...

Kobold Press State of Play Issues “No AI Pledge”

Yeah, that’s likely going to change in the cases where an AI is trained entirely on content you have a right to, because precedent established you don’t lose copyright to your work by modifying it with an algorithm. Otherwise you’d lose it the minute you applied any kind of filter to it. And...

    What makes a TTRPG tactical?

Yes to all of this, which is why the optimal choices need to be obscured on some level, whether through chance, interpretation, or situation. The fog of war is a thing for a reason, and a game needs to involve if not a chance of failure, at least a chance of unintended consequences.

WotC D&D Hiring New Game Designer Months After Firing Many

I wonder how many during the last downsizing have or had #Hasbro stock. There's also something to be said for conducting yourself in a professional manner. Easy to say when you're also in the position to choose how everyone else must communicate, and able to give advice whether anyone wants it...

    Calibans, Mongrelfolk and diability awareness

Keep in mind disability only exists in context, especially in fantasy. The lack of darkvision is a disability for an Elf. The inability to fly is a disability for an Aarakocra. And for something to be a disability it needs to meaningfully restrict the choices available to the character...

    What makes a TTRPG tactical?

A game is tactical when there are an obscured yet optimized set of choices to achieve specific objectives. A game is not tactical if all choices are functionally equivalent.

    Conveying Setting Information

The best model I've found for conveying setting information are travel/tour guides. They're designed to be focused, inspirational, and avoid the kind of information overload which causes readers to shut down. You can apply exactly the same strategy with Vampire: The Masquerade and Werewolf: The...

Did You Back a Million Dollar TTRPG Kickstarter? How's The Game?

The most concise, insightful, and balanced analysis of this game I've seen yet. Either you offend by appropriating existing names or by replacing them with fake ones. Can't win.
