What type of regular columns would you like to see on EN World?

Fair enough, you're the boss. But I come to EN World for gaming news. I have since the beginning. If I can't get to it easily, I might stop coming. If it's a choice between the news or the columns, I want the news. I'm just saying don't post the article in its entirety in the same place you...

What type of regular columns would you like to see on EN World?

Ditto Henry - gaming advice and crunch is what the EN World forums are for. I'd rather see other stuff. I'd be OK with anything really, as long as it doesn't fill up the entire news page like the last article did. News page is for news. Columns go somewhere else.

RPG Podcasts - Which Ones Are Worth A Listen?

Role Playing Public Radio is pretty good. They actually spend most of their time talking about RPGs and related stuff. They also have a HUGE libarary of actual play recordings. In their last podcast, they mentioned that they'd be splitting the actual plays off into its own feed. One warning...

Need good Disk Defragmenter for Windows XP

A roundup: Five Best Disk Defragmenters - Defragment - Lifehacker Three of the five are free (and other posters mentioned 2 of them). I can't imagine paying for a defrag tool - what a waste of money.

    Ebook organizer?

I saw some info on using iTunes as a document organizer a while back. You'll have to search for info it, but it didn't seem terribly hard at the time. Sony has free ebook reader software that includes some library functionality. Looks promising. Download eBook Library Software :: The eBook...

    Internet Page Load Help

Works for me. Are you at work? It's possible that a web filter may block the site for excessive display of skin or some other nonsense. It's also possible that it's a DNS related issue. You could try contacting your ISP. If you have a laptop, take it down to the coffee shop and try it over...

    Did Phineas's Maps Disappear?

The forum search is a paid subscriber feature. That's mostly because the old forums didn't have enough horsepower to deal with the searches from all users. Anyway, you can still search the forum, you just have to do it from google. In google, type "phineas map site:enworld.org" and you'll get...

Internet Explorer 7; NET Framework 3

I guess since I don't use any of those extensions, I don't consider them necessary, just bloat. To each his own, then. ;) Fasterfox's main site doesn't even mention their dev version. I assumed it became unnecessary with FF3's improved defaults.

Internet Explorer 7; NET Framework 3

ONLY? That's 9 add-ons. Don't overestimate the abilities (or interest) of your users. Fasterfox doesn't work on FF3 either, you're not still installing FF2 are you?

Internet Explorer 7; NET Framework 3

It is broke, and badly, just not in a way you were worried about before. IE 7 "issues" were mostly because lazy web programmers were coding sites specifically for IE 6 instead of utilizing proper standards. IE 7 works fine, and most of those sites have since fixed their code. You may as well...

Can someone suggest a free or cheap data recovery software?

Are you trying to undelete files or recover a bad hard drive? Windows, Mac, Linux? I'll assume undelete and Windows. Try this: Download of the Day: Undelete Plus (Windows)

    Rogue-like Reccomendations please

I've been playing Stone Soup, and it's great. They trimmed out a lot of the crap. It's also less random than Nethack. The down side is that it's still pretty hard.

wireless bridge or powerline-ethernet adaptor (or something else?)

Powerline networking is slow, from what I hear. If you're already willing to get wireless adapters, don't even bother considering powerline. Do you expect to do any heavy sharing directly between the computers upstairs? Like streaming music or videos? If that's the case, I'd use the bridge so...

HELP: Windows XP Pro installed over XP Media

A repair will replace system files with the versions from the CD, so in this case it replaced some Windows Media Center files with Windows XP Pro files. If you can find a Media Center CD and do the repair from that, it might fix the problem. I believe the Windows XP installer will let you...

GIMP; Is It Possible To Convert Full Color Images To Greyscale?

I don't have GIMP installed, but I know you can do it. It might be called Color Depth or maybe it's under Resample.

Do economical colour laser printers exist?

I bought a Xerox 6120PS networked color laser for about $250 a few years ago. My usage is light but it's been a great printer. I imagine that there should be a similar but updated model available now.

Vista, or waiting for Windows 7

Generally speaking, you should start a new thread rather than asking an unrelated question in an existing thread. That said, check out the Ars Technica system guide. It's a little out of date now and a new version should be showing up soon, but it'll help you spec out a good system. Ars Technica...

Vista, or waiting for Windows 7

Make sure your song writing programs actually work with Vista. Some niche programs are still way behind the times. Other than that, I'd agree with the other folks. Vista SP1 is pretty solid and pretty reasonable, if a bit piggy. I have every hope that Win7 will be better, and it looks like...

    Rogue-like Reccomendations please

I just found Elona (via Role Playing Public Radio). It's a cross between Final Fantasy and Rogue. Nice graphics and sound, but it's still being translated from Japanese, so there is a bit of weirdness, but no show-stoppers so far.
